Another Fly Landed on Amy Coney Barrett on Television
The judge has another thing in common with Vice President Mike Pence
What is it with political figures and flies? Judge Amy Coney Barrett attracted a fly during her Supreme Court confirmation hearing Tuesday, just as Vice President Mike Pence did last week during his televised debate with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-California).
Observers handled the situation with the same amount of shock and enthusiasm as last time, too.
“Okay everyone who didn’t take the Pence fly as a sign from God needs to look at Amy Coney Barrett‘s right shoulder,” tweeted one user along with an image of President Donald Trump’s nominee wearing a pink top, a mask and, of course, a winged insect.
Another user racked up over 2,000 retweets on a post that included two pictures of the bug along with “omg” and some cry-laughing emojis.
Because the incident happened just a week after the most recent example of fly-anointment, Twitter users were able to recycle the memes they made for Pence after he faced of with Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
One popular image showed a common housefly in a collar reminiscent of the ones worn by late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose widely-reported final wish was that the nomination of her successor would take place after the November election showdown between Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Another cartoon depicted a fly holding a “Biden Harris” sign.
Flies have no political affiliation or regard for live televised events. One landed on 2016’s Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, during a debate in the last election cycle, too.
