Hilaria Baldwin shared FaceTime snap of Alec on Rust film set hours before accident

Alec Baldwin's wife Hilaria shared a photo of the actor on set just hours before the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The set of western film Rust was hit by tragedy on Thursday after Alec, 68, fired a prop gun that fatally injured the film's director of photography, Halyna, and wounded its director Joel Souza.

Hilaria shared the photo of Alec just hours before the incident on her Instagram story.

In the snap, which appears to be a screengrab of a video call between the couple, Alec can be seen gazing into the distance as a beam of light shines across the screen. She captioned the image 'the light' alongside a sparkle emoji.

Production on the film Rust, which Alec was both acting in and producing, have now halted as investigations continue into the incident.

According to Santa Fe police, no arrests or charges have been made in connection with the incident, however Alec has voluntarily undertaken interviews with officers about the event.

The actor plays the character of Harland Rust in the film, an outlaw who goes on the run with his 13-year-old grandson after the boy is sentenced to death for an unintentional murder.

Filming began two weeks ago and had been due to run until the end of November.

The film’s production company, Rust Movies Productions LLC, responded to the tragedy, with a spokesperson stating: “The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones.

“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation.”

The company said it would also “be providing counselling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event”.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pouring in for Halyna, who was 42, in wake of the shocking incident.

Actor Dwayne Johnson wrote underneath Haylna's last Instagram post: "I am so so sorry. Rest easy. My love and strength to your family."

Suicide Squad director James Gunn paid tribute to Haylna on Twitter, writing: "My greatest fear is that someone will be fatally hurt on one of my sets.

"I pray this will never happen. My heart goes out to all of those affected by the tragedy today on Rust, especially Halyna Hutchins & her family."

Santa Fe police department is continuing its investigation into the incident.
