Jedward shaved off their trademark quiffs in order to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society on Daffodil Day.

The Irish pop stars shaved their famous quiffs off on live TV during the Late Late Show on RTE on Friday night.

John and Edward Grimes, known as Jedward, helped raise £2.5 million for the cancer charity, following the death of their mum Susanna from the disease back in 2019.

The 29 year old siblings, who shot to fame on The X Factor, said: "We are shaving our quiffs off to support the fighting heroes going through cancer.

"We're honouring the memory of all those who have come and gone, we are sending strength and love to all those suffering. Don't give up."

Speaking just before his hair was shaved off, John said: “We’ve had this hair for over 10 years. It’s part of our identity. I don’t think we’d be here today if we didn’t have the hair, but this is the first time we’re going to have our hair like this since the beginning of Jedward.

“To everyone who has cancer, you’re not alone. Everyone goes through cancer and has stories to tell. Our granddad had lung cancer and lived for 20 years with one lung and he had skin cancer.”

John himself got a shock as he saw himself without the quiff for the first time, as he said: “Jaysus! Who am I? Who is this person?," as show host Ryan Tubridy laughed.

Sharing a snap of themselves on Instagram with their newly-shaved heads, Jedward wrote: “2.6 Million Raised by the Irish Public for the Irish Cancer Society the work and services you provide is life changing! @irishcancersociety #Jedward #cancerawareness #cancer #irishcancersociety.”

In a previous post, they had again explained why raising money for cancer awareness was so important to them.

The pair wrote: “We bleached up our hair to brighten up these dark times! We are honoured to shave it all off for such a great cause. the government need more cancer treatments available for everyone the earlier it’s detected the better!

"There shouldn’t be a shortage of resources and treatments! Tonight is all about coming together and showing the power of the Irish nation watching the Late Late tonight @irishcancersociety @latelaterte #cancerawareness #cancer #daffodilday #irishcancersociety."

Fans praised them, as one person wrote: “Great lads, what an amazing thing to do for solidarity & support. also their performance was absolutley beautiful. i'm sure their mom was looking down on them tonight with a beaming heart & the proudest look on her face.” [sic]

Another viewer wrote: “Well done lads they are such grounded and positive men.”
