Jesy Nelson has reflected on her time in the girl group Little Mix, admitting that she felt "trapped" and "miserable".

The 30 year old star, who is set to release her debut solo single Boyz on Friday, admitted that she "couldn't deal" with constantly being compared to her former bandmates Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.

Speaking on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, the singer added that leaving the group in December to go solo was one of the best decisions she made for herself.

"I would say, 60% of me has, I'll never sit and lie and be like, oh, I'm so happy now, I don't have any insecurities as that's an absolute lie, I still have my insecurities, I still have my struggles," she noted.

Jesy continued: "I guess the thing that I'm better with now is that I see little things now when I do a music video, I'm not looking on the camera and thinking, oh my God, I don't look as skinny as Jade, Anne and Perrie.

"And that's what I did every single day," Jesy said before admitting that she enjoyed herself for the "first time ever" while filming for her new music video.

"I absolutely loved it, and I was like, this is the feeling I should have had the whole time," she said.

Jesy added: "Also, it wasn't nice for Jade, Anne and Perrie to be around when I was so down. They we're living their dream, and I wasn't.

"I felt very miserable and trapped, and I knew that, that wasn't right."

Addressing one of the main factors that prompted her decision to leave the group, Jesy said: "To be compared every single day to three other girls was draining, and I couldn't deal with that anymore.

"And I think a lot of people have misconstrued what I meant in my statement, they're like oh, so now she's going solo. I never said in my statement, I'm coming out of the music industry, I'm not going to do music anymore."

The talented star said that despite the lockdown being the result of something awful, it helped her find "true peace and happiness" and made her realise that being in the group "wasn't for her anymore".

Jesy has teamed up with US rapper Nicki Minaj for her hotly-anticipated new track Boyz.
