'John Wick 5' Might Start Filming Before 'John Wick 4' Even Hits Theaters

John Wick is coming back for a Chapter 5. Well, reportedly. According to scoop-laden website We Got This Covered, John Wick: Chapter 5 may be closer than you think. Lionsgate, the film company behind the John Wick franchise, is reportedly ordering a fifth installment of the film series before the fourth film has even hit theaters. Now that’s a confidence boost for the thrilling assassin-based series.

The hit action-thriller film series starring Keanu Reeves has quickly gained legions of fans since its 2014 debut. The John Wick films follow Reeves as the titular ass-kicking Wick, a former assassin who returns to crime to avenge the killing of his beloved dog, a gift from his late wife. The seemingly unusual pet-loving assassin storyline created an action-packed franchise that boosted Lionsgates’ film roster after the completion of the wildly successful Hunger Games series, according to We Got This Covered.

The first three John Wick films have earned a combined $600 million at the box office. The third installment of the series, which was released in May 2019, was the seventh highest grossing film in Lionsgate history. The film pulled in a cool $326 million in the box office, far more than the previous two films combined. John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to come out in May 2021.

But don’t be too disappointed when the credits run in 2021. After all, we already have the promise of more John Wick, even without a solid release date set—and that’s not just referring to the rumored Chapter 5. Upcoming Starz series The Continental is set at a hotel that is refuge for assassins in Wick’s world, though the series will be released after Chapter 4. The prequel film Ballerina, which is centered on female assassins in Wick’s world, is also currently in production.
