Jon Rahm, 26, had to withdraw from the Fortinet Championship just days before the start of the Ryder Cup. The recent FedEXCup runner-up was holed up in his hotel with his wife Kelley Cahill and the couple’s five-month-old son Kepa.

The Spanish golfer said he wasn’t moving well after spending a lot of time in bed during his recovery.

Jon explained that his wife and son, who are with him, are thankfully feeling fine.

The sports star added that he was unsure of what was wrong with him but added that he had heard a “stomach virus had been going around”.

Speaking to the PGA Tour Championship, John said it was a “bit of a battle” to reach full recovery.

The golfer shot an even-par 72 in the first round of the Fortinet Championship on Thursday when he returned to the golf course, just one day after pulling out of the competition.

“I didn’t have the mental clarity I usually have,” Jon said.

“It was a bit of a battle in that sense, that’s why probably on the greens it wasn’t my best day, but again, it is what it is. I’ve dealt with worse. I think a lot of people out there have played with worse.

“Tiger Woods won a U.S. Open with a broken knee, so I’m OK. Like I said, get a good meal now and try to fix a little bit of the feel that I have on the greens.”

Jon said he didn’t sleep well Monday night and wasn’t feeling great during his nine-hole practice round yesterday.

“Just a little run down from the season,” he said. “That’s my best guess.

“Maybe having a little bit too much good rich food Monday and Tuesday just did it for my stomach. That could be the case.”

“I don’t know what it is,” he continued. “I heard there’s a stomach virus going on, but I feel OK today, so feels like it would have been too quick of a turnaround.”

Meanwhile, Jon is set to play in the Ryder Cup tournament which begins today.

He assured fans that there are no concerns with his health ahead of taking to the golf course.

“If anything, I get to rest a couple of extra days and be able to figure out what’s going on with my swing, which technically is not really anything bad,” he explained.

Earlier this year, Jon welcomed son Kepa with his wife and college sweetheart Kelley.

Announcing the birth on Instagram, he wrote: “Kepa Cahill Rahm, was born on April 3 at 12.15am.

“Momma Kelley is doing great and recovering. Kepa is also in great health.

“He is 7.2lb and 20.5ins, big boy from the Basque Country. Without a doubt the greatest day of my life!”

Jon married partner Kelley in 2019 after the pair got together at Arizona State University.
