Michelle Heaton reveals she’s reformed friendships after overcoming addiction
Since admitting herself to The Priory seven months ago for an alcohol and drug addiction, Michelle Heaton has come on leaps and bounds.
As well as finding a new lust for a sober life, the mum of two has revealed her friendships have “come back.”
“What I thought was them leaving me because they hated me was actually me pushing them away,” the 42 year old told OK! at our exclusive at-home festive shoot.
“A few people have disappeared and I’m okay with that – it saves me ringing them up and telling them to go away!”
Michelle is preparing for her first sober Christmas and looking forward to spending time with her husband Hugh Hanley and their two children Faith, nine, and seven year old AJ.
When asked if there are any nerves surrounding the festive period, Michelle explained: “I can be around alcohol without any obsession to drink.
“We have our decorations up already and I’m really looking forward to it.
“It’s the first year I’ve not done panto for as long as I remember.
“Last year, panto didn’t go very well. I ended up in hospital and missed two of the shows. So, to not have work, be present at home, sober and well and not have died – as that’s where I was heading – it could have ended so differently. I feel very lucky to be alive.”
And Hugh couldn’t be more supportive in her journey to an alcohol and drug-free life.
“I had a front row seat to see someone self-destruct and then repair themselves,” he told us.
“I’m super proud. The person she was entering this year to the person she is now as we come out of the year is just worlds apart," he added.
Michelle checked herself into the Priory in April after hitting rock bottom. At her worst, she was downing up to two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka a day and also taking cocaine.
As a result of her drinking, the enzymes in her liver were sky high and Michelle previously revealed a therapist at the rehab centre told her: “We didn’t know if you were going to make it.’”
But feeling more positive than ever, the former Liberty X star told us: “Now I understand what content means – it’s serenity and to have peace. I believe I’ve got that now.”
