Piers Morgan, 56, has addressed his divorce and relationship with his ex-wife in a rare admission about his private life. It comes as the broadcaster blasted actor Ben Affleck, 49, for “humiliating” his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 49, in a recent radio appearance.

In an angry rant, Piers claimed the actor was a “stinking deadbeat drunken husband”.

Ben had lifted the lid on his separation during an episode of The Howard Stern Show that aired on Tuesday.

Explaining the divorce, the actor claimed: “I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’

“And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.

“But both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”

Commenting on what the relationship would be like if he and actress Jennifer were still together, Ben said: “We’d probably be at each other’s throats.

“I’d probably still be drinking.

“Part of why I started drinking alcohol was because I felt trapped.”

In his latest Daily Mail column, Piers fiercely defended Jennifer, who he said “has done everything she can to help and protect” her ex.

Piers even commented on his own divorce from Marion Shalloe as he highlighted the importance of shielding the couple’s three children from any negativity following their split.

He wrote: “I say this as someone who’s been through a divorce myself and who has never said a bad word in public about my ex, and never will.

“Partly out of respect for her – we’ve remained good friends, and she’s never dissed me in public either – and partly because I never want our three sons to hear me talk badly about their mother.”

Piers and Marion share sons Albert, Spencer, and Stanley.

Piers shared a link to his column on his Twitter account, where he has gathered 7.9 million followers.

However, the former Good Morning Britain host was met with mixed responses from his fellow Twitter users.

MrsChavarria wrote: “I listened to the entire interview… he didn’t bash or blame her.

“This is so annoying.”

Lizzie78100 typed: “I must say that I agreed with every word Piers said on that one. And I used to like Ben Affleck…”
