Prince Estate Shares Previously Unreleased Psychedelic Track ‘Cosmic Day’
The Prince Estate recently shared a previously unreleased psychedelic track, “Cosmic Day.” Along with the song, the estate also shared a photo of the original handwritten lyrics for the track on the Prince social media accounts.
The song will be part of the upcoming reissue of Sign O’ the Times, due out on September 25, via the Prince Estate in partnership with Warner Records
“Cosmic Day” was originally recorded in Studio 3 at Sunset Sound on November 15, 1986 by engineers Susan Rogers and Coke Johnson.
Although a snippet of the song had been released earlier, the full version has come out only now.
“While the song had floated among ardent collectors as a small snippet, the full version reveals Prince at his most psychedelic,” reads a statement regarding the release. “From the race car ignition sounding intro to the screaming guitar finale, Prince sings about Mermen in the sky and flying in the deep sea.”
The release also regards “Cosmic Day” as Prince’s most revered recording in the deluxe reissue as well as “his most psychedelic” recording.
“I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (1979 Version)” and “Witness 4 The Prosecution (Version 1)” are also part of the expanded reissue of Sign O’ the Times, which will be an eight-CD or 13-LP set containing 45 unreleased studio recordings.
