Susanna Reid: ‘I trust him completely’ GMB host on love/hate friendship with Piers Morgan

Susanna Reid, 49, and Piers Morgan, 54, have described their relationship like “an old married couple”, as millions watch them bicker on live TV every morning on breakfast show Good Morning Britain. But behind the on-air squabbling, they recognise the special relationship they share away from the cameras.

As the pair prepare to host an Oscars special live from Los Angles the morning after the glamorous award ceremony, the sat down with OK! Magazine ahead of their big Hollywood debut, and spoke their unique friendship that’s become a talking point not just for ITV viewers, but for many more.

Susanna has been branded by viewers as one that can manage Piers’ short temper and outspoken views, able to challenge him and stand her ground against his brow-raising tirades.

And, as many might have thought, behind the cameras they share an “unspoken trust”.

“We are very honest and frank with each other and I trust him completely,” Susanna revealed.

“If something isn’t right, we will discuss it in a very full and frank way.”

Piers added: “You have to have that trust and you have to like and respect each other, otherwise it wouldn’t work.

“We have the arguments live on air that people are having in their living rooms across the country,” he joked, referring back to the “married couple” jibe.

And, in true Piers style, he couldn’t resist but to make a snide comment about their rival breakfast show, BBC Breakfast.

“You wouldn’t get that on BBC Breakfast because they aren’t allowed to express an opinion,” he retorted.

His female counterpart spoke about her experience at BBC and how working with Piers and getting to know him as a person, helped her speak out more.

“When I was on the BBC, I didn’t come down on one side or the other but on GMB, I’m not allowed to sit on the fence – Piers would accuse me of having splinters up my backside!” she giggled.

The pair describe their relationship as 50/50 love/hate, with the outspoken host confessing he knows what “buttons to press to make her murder me.”
