The ‘A Million Little Things’ Season 3 Schedule Is Shifting To Wednesdays

When Shondaland’s How To Get Away With Murder ended in 2019, ABC was left with a hole in the schedule. Creator Shonda Rhimes had already decamped for Netflix, meaning there would be no new show to fill the space to pair with Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19. So ABC did the most sensible thing possible — take the show that was the biggest non-Shondaland drama, A Million Little Things, and move it into the block. But it seems that decision isn’t going to last. The A Million Little Things Season 3 schedule has changed, with the show moving back to Wednesday when it returns.

Like much of the schedule for the 2020-2021 television year, A Million Little Things has been upended by the delayed filming scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new season premiered along with Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy in November of 2020, only airing four episodes before hitting the winter break.

ABC initially scheduled all three shows to return on Mar. 4. However, continuing cases in Los Angeles caused the health department to ask for sets to stay shuttered a few extra weeks. Grey’s and Station 19 took the opportunity to extend that return date back a week, moving both to premiere on Mar. 11. A Million Little Things will move with them, but only for a short while. Starting with the first full week of April, the show will return to Wednesdays.

So what dislodged Things from the Shondaland block? A brand new series called Rebel. It’s not a Rhimes creation — those, like Bridgerton, are exclusive to Netflix now. Instead, it’s a show from the next best thing in ABC’s eyes: a series created and written by Krista Vernoff, the showrunner for both Station 19 and Grey’s, who was anointed by Rhimes to keep the home fires at ABC burning after she left.

Premiering Apr. 8, Rebels is a show inspired by the true story of Erin Brockovich, which previously was adapted for the big screen with Julia Roberts in the title role. The TV version will star Katey Sagal, who has pioneered iconic roles like Peg Bundy on Married With Children, Leela on Futurama, and, most recently, Cate on 8 Simple Rules.

Meanwhile, a Million Little Things will relocate starting Apr. 7 to Wednesdays, though it will continue to air at 10 p.m. ET.

The current Shondaland line up of Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy, plus A Million Little Things, will currently return on Thursday, Mar. 11, starting at 8 p.m. ET and airing in that order.
