Elvis Presley’s surprise birthday prank ‘The King could not keep SECRETS’ claim cousins

Antiques Roadshow: Elvis Presley autograph valued by expert

Being the alpha male of his inner circle, you could not tell Elvis Presley what to do. The Memphis Mafia would often find it hard to convince The King to go over to someone else’s house, so giving him a surprise birthday party was going to take a pretty hefty prank. And now his cousins have shared just how they did it in a new video.

Speaking on the Memphis Mafia Kid YouTube channel, Elvis’ cousin Billy Smith, his wife Jo and their son Danny admitted The King was usually the prankster rather than the one being pranked.

Jo said: “Elvis was always a drama, loved drama! If he was the one doing it, he didn’t like anyone else doing it.

The Memphis Mafia had tried several times to get Elvis over to Red West’s house but kept on failing.

Jo admitted: “They figured they would do something really drastic!”

Jo continued: “So they had one of the guys call Graceland and tell Elvis that Red had shot himself in the foot.

“Well my god, I don’t think Elvis even hung the phone up!”

The King rushed over to the house, while the Memphis Mafia wrapped Red’s foot up with a bandage and put ketchup all over it.

Next thing they knew, Elvis came in with a flashlight as Red was hopping around with a cane.

But then suddenly the rest of the Memphis Mafia jumped out and shouted, “Surprise! Happy Birthday!”

Jo shared: “Of course he loved it, but he couldn’t act like he really did…because that was one thing that we got away with doing that he didn’t know…was coming about.

“Elvis was the worst person in the world to keep a secret, he could not keep secrets!”

What would have been The King’s 86th birthday will be celebrated at Graceland on January 8, 2021.

During the rest of the video, Billy also shared a prank Elvis pulled on a movie set on Clambake director Arthur Nadel.

The Memphis Mafia had pranked pretty much everyone else in the crew, but now it was his turn.

On Nadel’s birthday, Elvis organised the cake, candles and singing Happy Birthday.

And when his men brought the cake over the whole thing was dumped right on the director’s head.

Nadel got up and said: “I’m going to tell you all something. Of all things, my feelings would have been hurt because you all played jokes on everybody here.

“If you hadn’t of played one on me I don’t know what I’d do!”

Billy’s son Danny then asked what would happen if they had done that to Elvis and his parents laughed admitting you wouldn’t dare.

The main reason being that The King would get you back much worse if say you threw water on him.
