  • Live review: Local Natives at the Electric Brixton, London

WHO: Friendly Fires

WHEN: Saturday, November 2

WHERE: Albert Hall, Manchester

Manchester’s hottest ticket this weekend is indie disco titans Friendly Fires as part of their UK tour.

The St Albans troupe finally released third album Inflorescent in August after eight years – so fans will be eager to delve straight in to their high-octane brand of dance funk.

Make sure you have your dancing shoes on for this one.

WHO: MorMor

WHEN: Saturday November 2

WHERE: Peckham Audio

MorMor is a star in the making.

Last year’s Heaven’s Only Wishful was arguably one of the 2018’s best tracks while he’s continuing his purple patch with the release of Won’t Let You.

The Toronto native, whose real name is Seth Nyquist, boasts impeccable musicianship over mesmerising vocals.

His last show at Corsica Studios was a sell out. Make sure you don’t miss this one.

WHO: Holodrum

WHEN: Saturday, November 2

WHERE: Soup Kitchen, Manchester

Leeds’ Holodrum, featuring members of Hookworms and Cowtown, play their first live show at Manchester’s Soup Kitchen on Saturday.

Their second single, Low Light, was released this week, emitting pulsating New York City electro-funk stylings associated to their heroes at DFA Records and the influential Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club.

Their energy is sure to fill dance floors up and down the country going forward. This is the buzz show of the week.

WHO: Lauv

WHEN: Monday, November 4

WHERE: O2 Forum Kentish Town, London

Pop giant Lauv plays two sold out shows at the O2 Forum Kentish Town on Monday and Tuesday in what’s sure to be one of the most talked about shows of 2019.

The California native is somewhat of a phenomenon having already become a platinum selling artist without even releasing his debut album,

He performed current single f***, i’m lonely with Anne-Marie on US chat show Late Night with Seth Meyers while the track already has more than 125 million streams.

The 25-year-old sold the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire earlier this year and these nights saw tickets fly out in no time at all.

And if you don’t have a ticket, Lauv will be rolling out singles in advance of the release of his 21-track debut.

WHO: Heavy Lungs

WHEN: Monday, November 4

WHERE: The Forum, Tumbridge Wells

Bristol punk upstarts Heavy Lungs are set to make it big in 2020.

With backing from mates Idles, whose song Danny Nadelko is named after Heavy Lungs’ frontman, the four-piece blitz with their frenetic brand of grit with a dose of Queens of the Stone Age-esque riffs to boot.

Expect your faces melted.

WHO: Warmduscher

WHEN: Tuesday, November 5

WHERE: Southampton Joiners

The south coast’s premier live music venue welcomes Warmduscher to its hallowed stage.

Expect dirty disco basslines, gloopy scuzz rock guitar riffs and witty storytelling from Clams Baker, Lightnin’ Jack Everett, Mr Salt Fingers Lovecraft, The Witherer and Quicksand.

They dropped their second album, Tainted Lunch, today via The Leaf Label.

  • Caught Live: Tame Impala at the O2 Arena, London

WHO: Lucky Daye

WHEN: Wednesday, November 6

WHERE: XOYO, Cowper Street, Shoreditch, London

New Orleans native brings his captivating brand of funk, soul and jazz to London’s XOYO on Wednesday.

The singer-songwriter is set to be the next rising star in R&B with his debut release Painted via Keep Cool/Columbia Records.

It’s influenced by his unconventional but fascinating past – he spent his formative years in a religious cult and was barred from any “secular music”.

He taught himself melodies by singing Bible verses and Dr Seuss rhymes.

His mother fled and they ended up in Tyler, Texas – but Lucky wanted more. He wanted to launch a career in music.

And for Lucky, it’s happening.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 6

WHERE: Electric Brixton

Perth’s Pond are one of the most exciting live bands on the circuit with their heady brand of psych-rock.

Headed by unmistakable frontman Nick Allbrook and featuring Tame Impala’s Jay Watson, the Australian four-piece take you on a euphoric journey of psychedelic funk and punk.

Expect cuts from albums The Weather and 2019’s acclaimed Tasmania at one of London’s best live music venues.

WHO: The Tallest Man on Earth

WHEN: Wednesday, November 6

WHERE: Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith, London

Sweden’s Kristian Matsson tours the UK this week with shows at prestigious venues such as the Sage in Gateshead and Birmingham Town Hall.

He graces the Eventim Apollo on Wednesday for an evening of enchanting and honest storytelling that creates a dreamlike experience.

He released the critically acclaimed Shallow Grave in 2008 with three more following.

Describing 2019’s I Love You. It’s a Fever Dream, he said: “I’ve come to realize that some of the most powerful, most inspiring moments in my life have been the most subtle and that so often the thing that deserves my attention, is trying the least to get it.”

WHO: Lizzo's I Love You Too Tour

WHEN: Friday, November 8

WHERE: o2 Glasgow Academy

Lizzo is the star of 2019.

With confidence in abundance, the R&B songstress can switch between a pop banger to a super ballad with the click of her fingers.

Her Cuz I Love You Too Tour will be full of hits, such as the global smash Juice and the infectious Boys.

Expect a lot of attitude and fun from start to finish.
