Jeremy Clarkson’s ex says he turned down dinner with Madonna to take her out

Jeremy Clarkson's ex-partner Phillipa Sage has lifted the lid on their relationship, revealing that he turned down a dinner with Madonna in order to take her out instead.

Phillipa confessed to The Sun about their former romance as she spoke about her "decadent" life of "private jets, helicopters and superyachts" with the Top Gear host.

Phillipa worked on the BBC show alongside Jeremy and his co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May as their PA for more than 12 years.

The former PA, who was accused of having an affair with the broadcaster in 2011 while he was married to his second wife Frances Cain, revealed Jeremy cancelled dinner with chart-topper Madonna to spend time with her.

Phillipa wrote in The Sun: "My working life was a decadent, never-ending world tour with Top Gear Live in private jets, helicopters and superyachts.

"On one of my first dinners with Jeremy, he claimed to have turned down Madonna to spend the evening with me.

"Once we were officially a couple, we spent weekends at country estates, partied and holidayed with media moguls and members of parliament, including prime ministers, film stars, pop stars, lords and ladies – even royalty."

Phillipa's former role with the presenters allowed her to travel the world and party with A-Listers.

The mum-of-one, who's currently the editor of a motoring magazine, documented the time in her new book The Wonderful World of Jeremy Clarkson, My Life on the Road with Jeremy.

She wrote that she was delighted to be accepted into Jeremy's "extraordinary" world, with their union leading her to spend time with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

Phillipa went on to describe the moment Jeremy took her to a party in a private room at a bar in London's Shoreditch.

Phillipa confessed a year ago that her split from Jeremy – with whom she parted ways in 2017 – has been tough on her mental health.

She revealed it took her a "long time" to get over the television personality because he was "all over the place".

She explained: "It took a long time for me to get over it because you can't escape. Especially because he's all over the place."
