Mick Jagger brands Harry Styles a ‘superficial version’ of his younger self
Mick Jagger has branded Harry Styles a "superficial version" of his younger self.
The Rolling Stones frontman, 78, claimed he likes the former One Direction star, but simply shut down comparisons and insisted they are very different in terms of their performance style and look.
The rock and roll star told The Sunday Times: "I like Harry – we have an easy relationship. I mean, I used to wear a lot more eye make-up than him. Come on, I was much more androgynous."
And he doesn’t have a voice like mine or move on stage like me; he just has a superficial resemblance to my younger self, which is fine — he can’t help that."
The musician, who has been a part of The Rolling Stones for over six decades, became known for his flamboyant sense of style in the early stages of his career.
The dad-of-eight's androgynous sense of styling consisted of bedazzled jumpsuits, lace-up leather outfits and cropped and patterned suits which helped him become an irreplaceable figure in both music and fashion.
In recent years, Harry Styles, 28, became a far cry from his One Direction days, taking to the stage wearing embellished jackets and vibrant ensembles.
While headlining weekend two of Coachella, the Sign of the Times singer slipped into a custom cut-out Gucci jumpsuit which he paired with an oversized pink feather coat.
The X Factor star has stated in previous interviews that he looked up to Jagger and has drawn inspiration from him.
During an interview in 2019 interview with L'Officiel, the singer said: "When I look at them, I don’t know what it is, but it’s this, this something special,” while referring to Jagger and other stars.
He also impersonated the rock legend in 2019 during an appearance on Saturday Night Live.
In 2015, Jagger had positive things to say about the Dunkirk star, saying: "He’s got it going on. I know him, he comes to see me in lots of shows and yeah, I can see the influence. But I don’t say anything to him, I just tell him he looks nice. I like him. He’s very decent."
