Strictly Kai Widdrington victim of scammers as conmen try to nab cash from fans

Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington found himself caught up in a festive fraud nightmare after an imposter tried to con his fans out of cash in an online scam.

The pro dancer, who was forced out of last week’s final after celebrity partner AJ Odudu tore a ligament in her leg, was devastated after learning a hacker had accessed his social media accounts in a bid to swipe money from his followers in the run-up to Christmas.

Kai, 26, a former Junior World Latin American dance champion and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, warned fans to beware of the fraudster.

He said: "I am sorry to everyone who has got weird messages asking for money. Obviously, this wasn’t me. It was a hacker who still has access to my Twitter account which I am working on retrieving.

"He is looking to get money from people so please don’t engage with my Twitter until you know that it is me. Will keep you posted."

It is thought the conman contacted a number of Kai’s followers before the dancer was alerted to the suspicious behaviour.

Police are set to launch a probe.

Kai is the latest of a number of Strictly stars to find themselves a target in online identity fraud.

Neil Jones, 39, and his estranged wife and fellow dancer Katya, 32, have both been victims of hackers aiming to con fans of the hit show out of thousands of pounds.

Strictly newcomer Kai and presenter AJ narrowly missed out on their chance to compete in the final after she sustained the nasty injury during training for their final performance.

Their absence from the final left EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her professional partner Giovanni Pernice and former Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite and his partner Johannes Radebe to battle it out for the coveted Glitterball Trophy on Saturday night's show.

After tie-breaking in their scores from the judges, it was deaf star Rose and Giovanni who took the gong home, having won the public vote.
