Britney Spear Begs Fans Not to Forget Her, Leading to Renewed #FreeBritney Push
Many fans believe Britney’s latest Instagram post is saying she intends to focus on gaining legal freedom from her father’s conservatorship over her personal, health and business affairs.
Britney Spears took time away from not performing or releasing new music to ask her fans not to forget her as she continues to focus on her well-being.
The singer first took a step back from her breakneck schedule, which included a Las Vegas residency, back in January when her father Jamie fell ill. Now that his health has recovered, TMZ recently reported that Jamie weathered a battle over conservatorship over the pop star’s personal, health and business affairs from his ex-wife Lynne.
And now that everything appears to have settled down and stabilized on that front, it looks like Britney is ready to focus on … something. "I hope y’all haven’t forgotten about me!!!" she captioned a series of photos of her performing on stage. "I’m taking this transition in my life to focus on what I really want."
I hope y’all haven’t forgotten about me!!! I’m taking this transition in my life to focus on what I really want … I’ve been working nonstop, well, since I was 8 years old in the business. Sometimes it’s good to stop and reflect !!!! Miss you all … I really do have the best fans in the world !!! #fbf

She continued pointing out that she’d been working basically since she was eight years old, and that "sometimes it’s good to stop and reflect." She’s certainly had a lot to reflect on and deal with throughout 2019, including father Jamie’s health, and the relief of him being cleared of the child abuse charges filed by her ex-husband Kevin Federline over an alleged incident with 14-year-old Sean Preston.
Britney was reportedly fearful that she would lose what custody she does have of her children thanks to the allegation that had been brought against her father, or at least jeopardize them. She currently has 10 percent custody rights and supervised visits, per a new arrangement confirmed by People.
As for Britney’s conservatorship, her personal matters are still being managed by Jodi Montgomery, who has long managed her personal care, while Jamie maintains his powers of her business matters. Jamie is expected to take back over as full conservator of Britney’s health and affairs in January.
Britney’s fans launched a #FreeBritney campaign over the summer in an attempt to help her get out from under conservatorship altogether, but that hasn’t happened. The movement picked up steam again, though, amid the abuse charges brought against Jamie.
Many of them believe that Britney has been hinting about her own desire to be free of the conservatorship in various posts, and see this as another one. Could the "focus on what I really want" be a focus on gaining freedom and independence for her personal and professional lives for the first time in years? Perhaps she’s focusing on a challenge of Jamie’s reinstatement of full powers in January.
And yet, through everything, Britney has maintained a positive presence on Instagram, dancing and exercising and keeping her fans in the loop as to how she’s doing. And in all honesty, Britney need not fear that her fans will ever forget her, even if she doesn’t return to music for a while yet.
The pop star has made an indelible mark in the music industry. Aside from a string of massive hits, Britney has enjoyed a longevity often denied pop stars, putting her in rarefied company like Madonna, Beyonce and Cher. In fact, even though she uses her last name, we’d argue she’s famous enough to be like them in anther way, easily identifiable by one first name only.
Fans and fellow stars immediately threw their support behind Britney’s post, praising her for being so candid about her mental and spiritual health needs, and assuring her that she needn’t fear ever being forgotten. And in a show of support, her boyfriend Sam Asghari commented with one word: "Respect."
Her fans, meanwhile, threw their support behind Britney immediately following the post, including Vanessa Hudgens who commented, "We could never forget you." You can see some of their responses below, including renewed interest in #FreeBritney, with many interpreting her #fbf hashtag as referencing the movement.
