Coronation Street spoilers: Jim McDonald to return to cobbles in bombshell baby twist?

Jim (played by Charles Lawson) was last seen terrorising Coronation Street last year when he returned alongside Hannah Gilmore (Hannah Ellis Ryan), who was posing as his dead daughter Katie McDonald to try and fleece ex-wife, Liz McDonald (Beverly Callard) for leaving him to rot behind bars.

During his stints on the ITV soap, Jim’s heart has always been devoted to his Elizabeth, but it hasn’t stopped him from being one of the numerous love-rats to grace the cobbles.

The Weatherfield lothario has even betrayed his own son to appease his cheating ways, having had an affair with Steve McDonald’s (Simon Gregson) ex-girlfriend, Fiona Middleton (Angela Griffin).

Steve (Simon Gregson) will soon learn he could be the father of Rovers barmaid Emma (Alexandra Mardell) after discovering her mother is Fiona, but fans have been left wandering whether Jim could be the man behind the mask.

Emma discovered the man who had raised her wasn’t her father shortly before he passed away in last night’s instalment of the ITV soap, with Fiona confirming the news via a phone call.

The barmaid was reluctant to unearth who her real father was as she was overcome with grief, although Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Liz were certain Steve could be Emma’s dad.

However, Fiona left Weatherfield in 1998 following a break up with Steve as he’d slept with her best friend Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw), a time when Jim was still an apparent figure on the cobbles.

Heartbroken by the betrayal, Fiona could very well have turned to Jim for comfort following their affair months before, leading her to become pregnant with Emma before leaving the cobbles.

Before her last chance of a romance with Steve, Fiona had questioned whether Jim was the father of her son Morgan in the lead up to her wedding to ex-husband Alan McKenna (Glenn Hugill) after she had an affair with the Irishman.

Could history be about to repeat itself as Jim is revealed to be Emma’s father and Steve’s half-sister?

Emma could actually be Steve’s half sister

Coronation Street viewer

In light of Emma’s discovery about her paternity last night, viewers took to social media to express their theories about who her father could be.

One posted on Twitter: “Suppose Jim McDonald is her dad and not Steve and it’s a red herring.”

Another added: “We probably all think that Steve is Emma’s dad when in reality he’ll be her half sister, I reckon Jim is Emma’s dad.”

A third commented: “Let’s not forget that Fiona was sleeping with Jim too, Steve thinking he’s Emma’s dad, there’s gonna be a twist, Emma could actually be Steve’s half sister!!

Next week will see Emma finally discover the truth as former soap star Angela, 42, reprises her role as the feisty hairdresser.

Fiona won’t be making a physical return to the cobbles however, rather catching with her daughter via a video call to answer some tough questions.

Emma’s mother making a comeback will come as a result of Steve arranging a DNA test after he snags a piece of his apparent daughter’s hair.

Steve will then arrive at the funeral of the man who raised Emma, telling the grieving barmaid he is her father.

As the news sweeps through Weatherfield, Emma turns to her mother to get clarity over the suspicions.

Will Fiona urge Emma to accept Steve is her father to protect her from the truth Jim is her dad?

Coronation Street continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
