Coronation Street to include unicorn in most bizarre scene ever
Coronation Street is known for being a bit slapstick – but upcoming Christmas scenes will include a bonkers fight which includes an inflatable unicorn and an injured pigeon.
Because of course, why not?
The showdown comes as Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) comes to blows with Phill after he found out that he had planted the lips on his ex.
Jennie McAlpine laughed: ‘There’s a pigeon in the mix – spoiler alert. Phill goes to his mother, there’s an injured pigeon, Tyrone is drunk. He tries it on! But it ends with Fiz and Evelyn rolling their eyes at them.
‘Unless directors cut it as it’s so ridiculous but there is an inflatable unicorn involved.’
You’re in luck Jennie – and audience. As the unicorn isn’t the only feature.
The scene comes as part of boss Iain MacLeod’s ambition to ensure the festive episodes are loving, warm and funny.
He told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s quite jolly actually. There’s a tradition of soaps going dark and gothic and we have dipped our toes in that previously but this is a traditional Corrie Christmas.
‘It’s funny, silly, has a community vibe, heartwarming. It’s got more of the closeness feeling – last Christmas was much stricter. This year is family focused and jolly.
‘It has one of the silliest fights I have ever seen -“smell my marigold” is a quote. I will let you wonder what that refers to.
‘I watched it when I wasn’t feeling very festive and by the end I have a mince pie shaped lump in my throat. I had tears of joy, not misery, just a glorious thing.’
