Dancing On Ice will return as planned next week

Dancing On Ice viewers have been reassured it will return as planned next week, with confirmation that it will not be cancelled due to the coronavirus lockdown.

ITV announced that the show will be back on January 17 in a tweet on Wednesday night, putting to bed fears that the national lockdown could disrupt the series.

ITV tweeted: ‘Confirmed: Dancing on Ice returns Sunday 17 January at 6pm on ITV.

‘Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby once again return to present the show and the expert Ice Panel of Torvill and Dean, John Barrowman and Ashley Banjo.’

The new series of the show – its fourth since ITV revived it back in 2018 – will crown the successor to 2020 champion Joe Swash.

Contestants have been rehearsing for weeks in Covid-secure environments, looking to perfect their routines before the series begins.

An ITV spokesperson said: ‘We have stringent protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of all our contributors and staff which are routinely monitored and updated to reflect the current guidelines.

‘We’re in constant contact with our entire cast in training and there have been no concerns raised.

‘ITV takes the safety and welfare of everyone involved with its programmes extremely seriously and follows all government guidelines regarding Covid-19.

‘The government has confirmed TV production can carry on throughout lockdown.’

Dancing on Ice arrives on ITV on January 17.
