Death in Paradise sparks uproar over Humphrey Goodman’s absence: ‘Bring him back!’

GMB: Kris Marshall on his decision to leave Death in Paradise

Death in Paradise viewers will soon see deceased detective, DI Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller) reprise his role in the BBC drama. He’s not the only one, as DS Camille Bordey (Sara Martins) is expected back in episodes to come. With DS Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) having already having taken up her duties yet again at the police department, some viewers have expressed their dismay another previous fan-favourite, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) won’t be following suit, pleading for him to return.

The series has had four British detectives take on the job on the fictional island since it began in 2011.

Currently, it’s DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) who is looking after the various crimes of the seemingly tranquil island.

With more former stars set to reprise their roles, there’s one who fans are saddened is missing from the line-up.

DI Goodman’s absence hasn’t gone unnoticed after several former characters have used the show’s anniversary season to return.

One shared: “As much as I love Death in Paradise I honestly feel like s**t, I just want Humphrey back. Martha’s welcome to come too! #DeathInParadise.”

Another said: “No problem with Ralf Little as an actor, he’s very good but his character has an over the top amount of allergies which is bemusing and annoying. Bring back Humphrey. #DeathInParadise.”

A third wrote: “Good ep, good case, great to see Florence back but get rid of Neville, the allergy nonsense is beyond a joke now. Get Humphrey back !! #DeathInParadise.”

Death in Paradise: Ralf Little teases Ben Miller’s return

“I’ve missed DS Cassell! Just wish they’d bring Humphrey back now…! #DeathInParadise,” commented another.

“The lead detective is SO irritating I DON’T CARE how many illnesses he has it’s not funny! How about he dies from one of them and they bring Humphrey back hmm? Winking face #deathinparadise,” echoed a fifth.

Humphrey left after the end of season five after when a case sent himself and his team back to London.

This prompted him to stay with love interest Martha, who had been to stay in the island earlier on in the season.

After Neville accidentally lost Harry in the trees, the officers start a search for him and luckily, discovered the lizard with a new friend, later on.

With Harry remaining on the island, viewers are sure to see another cameo from him soon.

Elsewhere, Josephine teased the possibility she would be remaining on the show for longer than just season 10.

She commented on her future: “Can I answer this? I don’t know. Yeah, first of all, when they called me to ask me back on the show, I wasn’t expecting it at all.

“It took me a few days, maybe a few weeks to think about it and like, give them my decision.

“They asked me only for series 10,  they were like, ‘No rush, no pressure, one series at a time.’”

She seemingly confirmed her fate, revealing: “I don’t die in series 10. So maybe, for the next one. I don’t know yet. It’s too soon to say but probably.”

Could there be romance on the cards for new colleagues and friends DS Florence and DI Neville if she decides to stay on the island?

Death in Paradise airs Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One.
