Eamonn Holmes calls for This Morning to evacuate after mystery sneeze

This Morning was back with the final instalment of the week and it was Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes who were sitting on the blue sofa presenting live from the ITV studios. During the This Morning View segment, someone in the studio sneezed and those watching at home saw Eamonn jump up out of his seat and Ruth shout “sanitise, sanitise!”

There is a lot of misinformation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, especially when it comes to symptoms.

It can be difficult to associate health issues with covid-19 considering experts have said some members of the public will have the virus and not know about it because they have no symptoms, to mild, moderate and severe symptoms which would be a recurring, dry cough and or a fever.

During today’s This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn were discussing the latest headlines with guests Matthew Wright and Michelle Gayle when a member of the production crew sneezed.

“The universities are desperate to get another intake,” Matthew argued. “They must be sitting there thinking ‘if this goes on to a worse possible-‘“

But he was interrupted by a loud noise from behind the cameras.

Eamonn turned around and said: “Was that a massive sneeze did we hear there?

“Evacuate the studio!” he joked standing up and looking around for the culprit.

Ruth added: “Sanitise, sanitise! Who was that? They will get escorted out by security!”

It comes after This Morning, as well as several other live ITV shows have reduced the number of staff and crew in their studios amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The magazine show, in particular, is enforcing self-distancing in the studio, where all guests are seen sitting a metre apart from each other.

Alongside this, many of their guests video call into the studio for interviews from their own homes.

However, some viewers took to Twitter to ask why the presenters were practicing the government’s advice.

In reference to yesterday’s show, one said: “In the fight against Coronavirus it is advised to practice social distancing.. it would be great if @schofe and @hollywills led by example on @thismorning!”

@thismorning if Matt Hancock is recommending that you practice social distancing, why are FOUR of you sharing the set in close proximity.#leadbyexample #coronavirus,” someone else remarked.

But one viewer pointed out Ruth and Eamonn lived together: “@thismorning Why aren’t your guests Social Distancing. I can understand Eamonn and Ruth sitting next to one another, but your guests?? And Holly and Philip yesterday?”

Ruth returned to hosting duties following a week off and viewers will remember tuning in to see Rochelle Humes sitting alongside Eamonn last Friday.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to celebrate due to the ongoing pandemic and taking precautions to stop the spread of the virus.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
