In upcoming scenes, residents of Walford are set to face harrowing events as a fire erupts and tears down the Mitchell household. With Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) and Scarlett Butcher (Tabitha Byron) trapped inside, residents start to gather around the house. As Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) and Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) arrive, fans are certain he will strike again using the fire to cover his tracks. Charlie Brooks also teased at the possibility of a fire during the Christmas special at the NTA’s on Thursday evening.
After returning from a seven-year hiatus, Charlie Brooks made an explosive return for the BBC Soap, surprising and delighting fans.
Speaking at the National Television Awards, Charlie teased that “fires” will be in Janine’s future, which could be interpreted as the upcoming fire in Phil’s home or the fact she is sticking around in the square.
She also teased that she may be appearing in the EastEnders Christmas special, which is always known to have explosive and devastating drama.
“I do know a little bit about Christmas day, they’re keeping a close eye on me, I might be… [in the Christmas special], but watching myself, I struggle with that a bit more as I get older,” she explained.
Earlier in the week, Charlie spoke with Digital Spy about her return and said: “Wherever Janine goes, drama follows.

“My time playing her over the last 20 years has always been exciting and always challenging for me as an actress to keep delving and keep exploring her.
“So, I’m looking forward to more of that, to come back with a big band is amazing,” she explained.
Charlie didn’t comment on a particular storyline, but fans are keen for her to survive any fires or drama which may occur leading up to Christmas.
Devoted fans of EastEnders are adamant that Gray Atkins will be exposed on Christmas day, with his dark secrets finally coming to light.
As a fire rips through Walford, viewers have said that they believe Gray may strike again with the fire exposing him as a murderer.
Next week, viewers will see Gray and Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) come together to try and save the people inside the fire.
However, the pair have never seen eye-to-eye as Kheerat has suspected Gray of killing Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer) for a while.
In upcoming scenes, Gray and Kheerat race inside to save everyone who is trapped, but as they head upstairs, an explosion erupts.

One theory from a viewer suggested Gray will take the opportunity to kill Kheerat in the fire, as his fight for power and control consumes him.
However, Kheerat could possibly avoid his brush with death and bring Gray down after his killing spree within Walford.
Their fates within the fire remain unknown, but this could be Gray’s biggest mistake yet with Kheerat exposing his secrets in an explosive Christmas special.
The fan tweeted: “Official theory for the fire: Gray will leave/trap Kheerat in the burning house, he’ll escape and think he’s killed Kheerat when the explosion happens.
“But Kheerat will actually get out and then know for sure that Gray is a murderer!”
One viewer agreed, commenting: “I could see that, then spend 3 months building up to Christmas trying to prove it before a dramatic festive reveal.”
Fans will remember Gray killed his ex-wife Chantelle, love rival Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) and Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) after she found out her killed Chantelle.
Gray made it seem like Tina had run away last Christmas after she was accused of the attempted murder of Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).
Over the past couple of weeks, he has been feeding lies to Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) and Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), saying he recently saw her on a bus.
When quizzed more on his lies, he retracted his statement saying he couldn’t be 100 percent on what he saw, leaving Linda to grow suspicious of his actions.
EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
