GMB’s Piers Morgan branded ‘racist’ as he mocks Chinese milk advert

Piers Morgan was going all guns blazing on today's Good Morning Britain , firstly saying he was "done" and "bored" with Meghan Markle, then angering viewers with his impression of a Chinese advert.

The controversial host shared a clip of the Queen's grandson Peter Phillips in a Chinese milk advert, taking a sip before promoting the foreign brand.

Of course, the advert's voiceover spoke in the country's native tongue, though Piers couldn't help mocking it and trying to say what was being said.

But co-host Susanna Reid was left cringing, telling him: "Taking the Mickey out of languages is so 1970s."

And her sentiment was echoed by plenty of viewers, with some even branding Piers as "racist" due to his impression.

One said: "Now that is a racist thing that Piers has just done twice!"

A second tweeted: "Oh Piers, you're digging yourself a hole man. Why are you mocking the Chinese language on live TV? Tut tut."

Another wrote: "Piers offending the whole of China with his impression."

A fourth added: "Waking up to a certain GMB presenter speaking in his interpretation of a 'Chinese' dialect. Jesus, as a child growing up in the 80s this is exactly what ignorant people would mock me with, thinking they were funny and clever (I'm of Filipino heritage)."

Someone else went on: "Time warp back to when ITV and GMB thought it was OK to do a Chinese impression… Unbelievable," adding the hashtag: "Bit racist mate."

A sixth said: "How can GMB justify having a grown man mocking Chinese dialect? How offensive can one person be in 2020?" alongside the hashtags "offensive" and "shameful".

While another wrote: "Little bit offensive there Piers. The 1970s called, they want their Chinese stereotype back. Moron."

The advert was brought up in reference to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have spoke of wanting to be financially independent from the Royal Family.

Peter Phillips makes his own money, so Piers was suggesting Harry and Meghan could follow a similar path.
