Grantchester’s Geordie Keating (played by Robson Green) and Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) are set to return, with the season six premiere just around the corner. It will bring the characters into 1958 with more crimes to solve in the not-so-sleepy town. Express.co.uk has all the details on the next season of the ITV series.
When does Grantchester season six premiere?
Season six of Grantchester has been in development for several months and the premiere is now just a few days away.
The new season is promising to push the show forward with exciting new storylines and themes.
The sixth season will premiere on Friday, September 3 at 9pm, with each episode airing weekly after the debut.
There will be eight episodes in total, with the new season continuing to explore Geordie and Will’s friendship.
In fact, the new season will see Will continue to evolve as a character, especially after his romantic encounter near the end of season five.
Now set in 1958, there is new trouble in the Cambridgeshire village, but not before Georgie and Will are enjoying a well-earned break.
Reverend Will Davenport is revelling in his work, unafraid to challenge conventions in order to help the people of the village.
Will is put to the ultimate test as his own ideals put him at odds with the job he loves.
This is made worse when Leonard Finch (Al Weaver) is caught up in a scandal that puts Will in a difficult situation.
Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating is also struggling with his principles, while his wife Cathy (Kacey Ainsworth) is defiant.
The official synopsis adds: “With new crimes around every corner, and morality and legality at loggerheads, it’s going to take all of Will’s skill and empathy to navigate these choppy waters and help the ones he loves.”
ITV recently dropped the trailer for the season, showcasing many of the struggles both Will and Geordie will face.
Scandal appears to be the aim of the game in season six, as several of the characters are caught up in Leonard’s personal life which proves to be controversial in the village.
Season seven is already in early development, meaning viewers won’t have to wait long for the return of the show.
There is no release date for the seventh season, but with production already well underway, fans shouldn’t have to wait long to see it.
For now, viewers will have to wait and see what happens for Will and Geordie during the events of season six.
Fans have been sharing their excitement for the new season, with many of them commenting on the trailer for season six.
One fan commented: “What the Dickens?!?! If anything bad happens to Leonard, we show fans will RIOT!!!”
“Appreciate having more episodes of Grantchester this fall and hopefully well into the future,” added another.
A third wrote: “Didn’t know there was more coming! Fantastic!”
Grantchester season six will premiere on September 3 at 9pm on ITV.
