Is The Tower based on a book?

THE Tower is a brand new gritty drama coming to ITV.

But for some viewers the story may sound very familiar.

Is The Tower based on a book?

Fans of author Kate London will know The Tower better as Post Mortem, the title of the first novel in her Metropolitan series.

Kate is actually a former Metropolitan Police Officer who, by the end of her career, worked on a Major Investigation Team on the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

She has said how the people she met and the things she saw in the police inspired her to write almost as soon as she had first donned the uniform.

“Within a matter of weeks [of joining the police] I was writing – not for publication, but because I just had to get down on paper the world I encountered: its complexity, laughter, loyalty, the moral conflicts and the dangers that were not only physical," she said.

“Policing showed me London in a way no other job could.

"The product of this experience was my first novel, Post Mortem.”

What happens in Post Mortem?

A long-serving beat cop in the Met and a teenage girl fall to their deaths from a tower block in London's East End.

Left alive on the roof are a five year old boy and rookie police officer Lizzie Griffiths.

Within hours, Lizzie Griffiths has disappeared, and DPS officer Sarah Collins sets out to uncover the truth around the grisly deaths, in an investigation which takes her into the dark heart of policing in London.

Grounded in the terrifying realities of policing a city where the affluent middle-classes live cheek-by-jowl with the poorest immigrants, this is a complex, intelligent, thrilling crime novel by an author who has walked the beat.

What else has Kate London written?

Kate started her career as an author back in 2015 and has so far written three books.

As mentioned, her first novel was Post Mortem.

Her second book was called Death Massage and that was released in 2017,

Kate's third offering called Gallowstree Lane came out in 2020.
