Joshua Jackson's 'Dawson's Creek' Reunion Idea Is Like 'Captain Marvel'
Actor Joshua Jackson is best known for starring in a hit WB series. Over the years, he’s been asked repeatedly whether or not he’d return for a Dawson’s Creek revival. Though he often says no, Jackson once solved a problem regarding the reunion’s cast with a solution that’s downright heroic.
Joshua Jackson starred in ‘Dawson’s Creek’
Jackson portrayed Pacey Witter in Dawson’s Creek. Pacey begins the series as a troublemaker but, throughout its six seasons, grows to become a tenacious adult. He goes from high school slacker to successful chef and restauranteur, as seen in the flash-forward series finale.
“I enjoyed the fact that — being a kid at that time — playing a kid who wasn’t an idiot or the precocious one. He never insulted the audience by dumbing us down in order to be believable teenagers. I loved that part,” Jackson told Entertainment Weekly in 2018, adding, “Kids are smart.”
The cast reunited to celebrate its anniversary
Before Dawson’s Creek, Jackson was best known for his role in The Mighty Ducks film franchise. After it, he went on to star on the TV series Fringe, The Affair, and Little Fires Everywhere. Jackson also appeared in films such as Cruel Intentions, Americano, and One Week. But many still know him best as Pacey.
Years after Dawson’s Creek ended, Jackson got together with many of his former co-stars to talk all things Dawson’s Creek. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of its premiere, he and James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, Mary Beth Peil, Meredith Monroe, and Kerr Smith met up to rehash their experience.
The reason they can’t have a ‘Dawson’s Creek’ reunion
As often happens at those reunions, the Dawson’s Creek cast was asked whether they would ever consider returning in a revival series or movie. While creator Kevin Williamson expressed a few of his ideas, the cast generally rebuffed the suggestion — most notably, Williams.
In the series finale, her character, Jen, dies of a heart condition. “I’m dead,” she told EW when asked. “We can’t — we murdered someone,” Jackson chimed in. He said as much again in 2019 when asked the same question. “I think people forget that we killed Michelle. So I don’t know how you would do that.”
Jackson cited technology used in ‘Captain Marvel’
At the time, Jackson was doing speaking to IMDb by himself, talking about a few different projects. When he shut down the idea, the interviewer replied, “Hollywood has ways of bringing people back,” the person replied. They even had a suggestion: “Zombie Michelle.” “Nobody’s truly dead,” Jackson agreed.
“We don’t even have to go back,” he countered, saying, “we can do the de-age face thing like they did in Captain Marvel.” In the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, actors Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg were de-aged with visual effects to play younger versions of themselves. Seemingly, Jackson was suggesting they all do the same for Dawson’s Creek.
