Strictly Come Dancing 2021 is well underway and Karen Hauer is already thrilling fans with partner Greg Wise and their fun-filled routines. The pair are currently favourite to be eliminated this week and Karen’s former partner Jamie Laing recalled how “terrifying” he found his experience on the show as he waited to perform and for the results.

The Made in Chelsea star joined Anton du Beke on Claudia Winkleman’s Radio 2 show to speak about his experience and give his opinion on this year’s celebrity line-up.

Claudia asked: “How scary, can you remember how scary those first few weeks are? When you’re just like, ‘Oh I don’t understand.’”

“It’s awful!” Jamie replied. “It’s awful! And the funny thing is you don’t realise how scary it’s going to be and then when you do the walk down the stairs and get introduced, that bit is scary.

“Let alone having to learn and routine and do it.

“When that red light goes on the camera and you realise 13.5 million people are watching you, you freeze.

“The thing is, it doesn’t get easier, it gets scarier as it goes on. It’s terrifying.”

Claudia exclaimed: “I so hope none of the contestants are listening to that because I keep on going, ‘You’ll be fine, you’ll be fine. It’s just the beginning bit.’

“I’ve got to ask both of you, what do you think of the current batch? What do you think of the class of 21?”

“Well I think they are marvellous, I think this is a tremendous,” Anton replied.

“I know we say this every year, oh this is the vintage lot but I genuinely think this is the vintage lot.

“I felt a bit sorry for Sara Davies last week because she danced a Cha Cha with Aljaz and although she came bottom of the leaderboard, I thought she danced really well.

“Any other year she would have been at least half way up the leaderboard. She was just unlucky.”

Jamie added: “Adam Peaty has the most wonderful bottom in history. He is so good at dancing and just fantastic.”

Unfortunately for Jamie’s former professional partner, she may not make it to the final this year.

According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, one in three elimination bets are in favour of Greg and Karen being booted off first.

The pair are being backed heavily for the next exit at 2/1, or there’s a 3/1 shot Ugo Monye is given his marching orders instead.

And at 25/1 Tom Fletcher is also attracting attention from punters who think there’s a chance his minimal time to train this week could result in him leaving the show on Sunday evening.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “Greg’s days on Strictly look numbered as far as the betting is concerned, but equally it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise to some punters to see a shock exit for former favourite Tom.”

This weekend Karen will be performing the Paso Doble with Greg to the James Bond Theme by Monty Norman for Movie Week.

Will the couple be able to survive another week or could this be the time for them to bow out?

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday on BBC One at 6.45pm.
