Kate Garraway takes son Billy, 12, to carol concert after breaking down in tears over husband Derek

KATE Garraway enjoyed an evening out as she was joined by her son Billy at a carol service.

The presenter, 54, wore matching festive red with her 12-year-old as they stepped out together on Wednesday evening.

The Together At Christmas Carol Service was organised by Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and also attended by her husband William, the Duke of Cambridge.

The night out at Westminster Abbey came after the Good Morning Britain host broke down in tears over her husband Derek Draper during an appearance on Piers Morgan Life Stories.

Derek was rushed to hospital in March last year after contracting Covid-19.

He was critically ill and spent over a year in hospital, before finally returning home to be cared for by Kate and their children Darcey, 15, and Billy.

Fans were left heartbroken as she broke down in tears on the ITV show after revealing her "loneliness".

Speaking about how things are at the moment, Kate told Piers: "There are lots of moments of joy in that, recognition, moments with the children where he definitely knows what they're saying to him and remembers things.

"But there is no way of knowing what the future is and in the meantime, it's a strange thing Piers…"

As she fought back the tears, she continued: "I want him there and I want him back, but some days his presence reminds me the absence, so you can feel very lonely. I feel like I just want to talk to Derek.

"Even though I believe he's there, he can't be there in that same way.

"I love him more than ever by the way."

And earlier today, the TV favourite was overcome with emotion as the revealed her husband Derek’s parents didn’t get to visit him hospital because they were following the rules – while Downing Street partied.

Kate recalled their “sacrifice” in not seeing their son who was in hospital with Covid at the time, describing how it “broke their hearts.”
