Love Island rules: What are the rules on Love Island 2019?
ITV2 series Love Island returned to our screens on June 3 with a new group of singles hoping to find love in the villa. Before contestants can enter the villa, they are given a rule book about the dos and don’ts of the show. Sherif Lanre left Island after breaking the rules of the villa but just what happened is unclear.
“After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa,” a Love Island spokesperson told Express.co.uk.
Sherif also made a statement, saying: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.
“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.”
WHY HAS SHERIF LANRE QUIT LOVE ISLAND?
Sherif continued: “I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”
He has also spoken out about his Love Island regret and his family has taken to Instagram as well after he left the villa.
Love Island contestants can be kicked off if producers deem they have broken the rules of the show.
Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for a copy of the guidelines given to Love Island contestants when they go into the villa.
This year also saw ITV issue a set of safety guidelines and aftercare for participants when the series came under scrutiny in the wake of The Jeremy Kyle Show’s cancellation.
ARE THE LOVE ISLAND CAST ALLOWED TO SMOKE IN THE VILLA?
Smoking on the show is not allowed with the Islanders on longer seen with cigarettes.
“There will be no smoking within the Love Island villa or the villa garden this year,” an ITV spokesperson said.
They added: “Producers have provided a designated smoking area outside the villa where Islanders will be able to have a cigarette if they chose to.”
Sex does happen on the show, usually in the Hideaway, but there are rules on this involving consent.
According to former contestant Simon Searles, the guidebook does talk about sex.
“You never really get a lot of drink but they do say if someone’s had too much to drink do not have sex with them,” he said.
WHO IS IN THE LOVE ISLAND 2019 CAST?
According to reports from The Mirror, contestants aren’t allowed to pleasure themselves in the villa.
There have been suggestions that any solo sexual acts could land contestants in trouble.
“They give you a bit of a handbook before and it’s in regards to consent, nakedness, condoms, what’s right and what’s not,” Simon explained.
Other reports have suggested the Islanders can’t be naked in the villa because it’s a public space.
There have been suggestions that even in the shower and bathroom area, cast members must wear some form of clothing.
HOW TO WATCH LOVE ISLAND 2019 ONLINE
Although the contestants are seen having some prosecco and other drinks, they are apparently not allowed to have too much.
Ex-Islander Liana Isadora Van-Riel told The Sun previously about the drinking rules: “You’re allowed one or two drinks a night, either wine or beer, no spirits.”
Van-Riel said Islanders generally drank one alcoholic drink and stuck to tea or soft drinks.
IS LOVE ISLAND ON SUNDAYS?
Although contestants are seen with mobile phones in the villa, these have been provided to them by the show’s producers.
But they are not allowed to have their own phones in the villa.
Liana explained that Islanders were “completely cut off” from the rest of the world.
She said: “They give you these basic little phones where you can text each other but nobody really uses them, they’re only really there for the whole ‘I’ve got a text’ aspect.”
Love Island airs on ITV2 on weekday nights and Sundays at 9pm
