‘Lucifans’ are still heart-broken following the devastating season finale of Lucifer’s fourth instalment.
Fallen angel and LAPD consultant Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) decided to abandon his life on Earth for the underworld in the episode’s final moments.
His love interest Chloe Decker (Lauren German) is now abandoned on Earth and vulnerable to a brand new threat, Lucifer’s evil twin brother Michael.
As confirmed in the new trailer, things will start to heat up between Chloe and Lucifer’s imposter before the gang discover Michael’s true identity.
However, season five has also promised another fledgling romance is on the horizon, and this relationship is sure to be far more wholesome.
After striking up a brief and awkward affair with Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), LAPD forensic expert Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) will finally be lucky in love in season five.
In an exclusive first-look for Entertainment Weekly, Garcia revealed some brand new behind-the-scenes snaps of Ella and her new boyfriend, Peter Daily (Alex Koch).
Described as ‘endearing, nerdy, and friendly’, Koch joins the cast as a reporter who crosses paths with Lucifer and Chloe during one of their infamous murder cases.
Peter and Ella are naturally drawn together thanks to their shared geeky interests and awkward but charming chemistry.
Aimee Garcia teased the new pairing: “It’s just bad news bears in the love department for Ella [at the beginning of season 5], which I like because she can’t be perfect. Then, she finally, finally, finally, dates a good guy.”
Unfortunately, with the stakes set to rise even higher in season five, Peter may be the first of many tragedies for Lucifer moving into season five and six.
Moreover, Ella and Peter’s shared love of Star Trek could spell certain doom for the budding journalist.

Garcia continued: “It’s so much more intimate because it’s not just physical.
“They go to Star Trek conventions, and they go to dinner and there’s wine and candles. They speak Klingon together.”
In Entertainment Weekly’s season five preview, Peter and Ella are shown dressed as Star Trek Vulcans in red and blue starship uniforms, respectively.
However, Star Trek fans know full well Peter’s decision to don the Enterprise’s red uniform could spell trouble for the new character in the future.
Affectionately referred to as ‘red shirts’, characters and extras in the Star Trek universe who wear the red version of the uniform are often treated as nameless cannon fodder.
This has occurred so often in Star Trek’s long history of television and film series that the term is often parodied in other media, and has become shorthand for minor characters whose sole purpose is to die in the heat of battle.
While all ‘Lucifans’ can agree they only want what’s best for the quirky CSI, the Star Trek Easter egg may have hinted towards a tragic loss for Ella Lopez in season five.
Lucifer Season 5 Part 1 will be released August 21 on Netflix.
