The politician’s casting to the reality show has caused a widespread backlash, and many were left wondering whether Matt would stick around in Australia to celebrate with the other famous faces or fly back home to continue his work as MP. It seems the latter choice was abandoned by Matt in favour of waiting around to film the famous I’m A Celebrity after party.

The disgraced former health secretary showed no signs of heading home on Monday night in Australia as he and girlfriend Gina partied on.

Before going onto the show, Matt had suggested he was contactable before and after filming the actual series and his aides were told he had access to a laptop.

However, eight hours after returning from the jungle camp and arriving at the JW Marriott Hotel, Matt was seen at a private drinks event with the other contestants.

Matt celebrated in a white shirt while Gina, also in white, remained by his side.

The couple can be seen walking together, with Matt’s arm placed around the 33-year-old.

Matt, sporting jeans and a white shirt, seems to be all smiles as he guides Gina from the hotel.

Gina can be seen grinning at the cameras after being reunited with her boyfriend.

Later, the couple boarded a minibus arm in arm to head to the show’s wrap party for cast and crew.

Matt caused a stir by joining this year’s series, with members of the public and fellow politicians alike blasting his decision.

Many argued he shouldn’t have been allowed to join the ITV reality show due to his scandalous conduct during the pandemic.

The former health secretary made headlines after breaking lockdown rules he himself had implemented on the nation.

Matt, who was married at the time, was filmed in leaked CCTV kissing his colleague Gina at a time when mixing with other households was banned.

Others also argued the serving MP should not be taking time away from his political role.

The after-party event at a local surf club was described as “a toast to thank each and everyone of you” and featured giant white neon lights spelling out IAC 22.

As an MP, Matt is being paid to serve his constituents today whilst at this party.

Discussing his controversial choice to appear on the show, Matt told Ant and Dec: “I wanted to show what I was like as a person.

“Lots of people come to me with preconceived ideas, for obvious reasons.

“And I just wanted to be myself. But I also actually strongly believe that for politicians as a whole, we don’t come across as human enough.

“And this is probably the most extreme way of just showing who you are, I am someone who throws himself into things.

“And we managed to talk about some important things here.”

Matt said prior to his appearance on the show he wanted to raise awareness of dyslexia, a condition he has.

During a couple of the jungle chats, the 44-year-old pointed out he struggled with written tasks when he was younger due to his dyslexia.
