Max George has revealed he has been in talks with Coronation Street about a role – but won't be joining soapland any time soon.

The singer rose to fame with The Wanted, but is now looking at a career in acting and said that he was setting his sights high with Hollywood rather than on soaps closer to home.

As a Manchester-born lad, Corrie had Max marked out as a potential new star – but he explained why he wouldn't be following former fiancee Michelle Keegan onto the cobbles.

The Daily Star said that Max revealed: "There’s been quite a few soaps that my agent and I have had conversations with, but we’ve never seen it through because I just want to focus on films at the moment.

"Coronation Street is only around the corner and I’m a Manchester lad, so it kind of makes sense. I’ve had talks about that, but it’s not something that’s ever interested me.

“For me film is what I want to concentrate on first, but never say never with anything."

Max was previously engaged to ex Corrie star Michelle, who made her name on the soap as Tina McIntyre and has gone on to star in Our Girl and Brassic – but Max reckoned he could start on bigger projects than the ITV series.

He claimed it had been difficult to get work because of Covid, but said that he planned to travel back to the US in search of work when he could and envisaged spending three months of the year out there for acting jobs.

Previously, Corrie has signed former popstars including Kym Marsh and Shayne Ward for second careers in soap.

The 32-year-old boyband star recently appeared on Strictly Come Dancing but unfortunately didn't follow in his The Wanted co-star Jay McGuiness's footsteps by lifting the glitterball trophy.

He is now in a relationship with Ryan Giggs' ex-wife Stacey, acting as stepdad to her two children with the footballer, and has previously been linked to romances with Lindsay Lohan, Carmen Electra and Tulisa.

Meanwhile, ex Michelle is married to former Towie star and radio DJ Mark Wright, who was previously engaged to Lauren Goodger.
