Set pics for the highly anticipated fifth season of Money Heist have revealed some new stars will be joining the cast, and fans have already tipped one of them to be directly linked to Tokyo. Before new episodes of the Spanish crime drama are released on Netflix, has the death of Tokyo’s ex-boyfriend finally been exposed?

After a gripping cliffhanger, Netflix finally confirmed Money Heist will return for one last season.

Production on new episodes for the show are currently underway, and fans are eager to see how the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) will get out of his current tight spot.

Meanwhile, the gang have declared war in the last stages of the heist on the Bank of Spain following the tragic loss of fan favourite Nairobi (Alba Flores).

As fans of the series wait patiently for the story to come to an end, some huge casting news and leaked set pics have given some indication to the events of season five.

When the series first got going, Money Heist viewers were introduced to the show’s sparky and cunning narrator, Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó).

At the beginning of season one, it’s revealed Tokyo joined the Professor’s team after a botched bank robbery resulted in the death of her unknown boyfriend.

Despite featuring plenty of flashbacks throughout the previous four seasons, Money Heist has still not revealed more than a brief glimpse of Tokyo’s former partner.

However, when newcomer Miguel Ángel Silvestre was confirmed to be joining the cast in season five, fans went wild trying to confirm who the new star would be playing.

Now, some leaked set pics may have definitively proven Ángel will be stepping into the role of Tokyo’s mystery man.

One eagle-eyed fan took to Reddit when they spotted some crucial similarities between Ángel’s look on-set and the brief glimpse of Tokyo’s boyfriend in Money Heist’s first episode.

Redditor LastWarrior24 posted: “This is a screencap of Tokyo’s dead boyfriend from Part 1 Episode 1. He is wearing a wife-beater in this.

“Now there are set photos circulating around of Úrsula and the new guy who is also wearing a wife-beater.”

This perceptive viewer deduced the set photos were probably lifted from one of Tokyo’s flashback scenes, as the show’s narrator is also out of the gang’s signature red jumpsuit.

They continued: “That means that they are probably filming the robbery scene in which he died. It could maybe tell us why Tokyo is such a b****?”

Tokyo’s bad attitude has often caused unnecessary friction with the rest of the team, and has even put the Professor’s gang in serious risk during the two heists.

Fans are now speculating season five will finally shed light on the traumatic events that led to Tokyo’s difficult demeanour.

Moreover, when set photos from the latest season featuring Corberó and her on-screen partner were initially unearthed, Money Heist fans went into a frenzy of speculation.

One fan commented: “Úrsula filming with the new guy, a flashback of Tokyo’s dead boyfriend perhaps?”

While another added: “Omg that’s literally what I thought when I first saw the pic not even kidding.”

Money Heist is hoped to return with its final, extended instalment in 2021, so all will soon be revealed in season five.

Money Heist season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
