Nadia Sawalha admits her self-esteem used to be ‘so low’ she would avoid Kaye Adams

Nadia Sawalha admitted that her self-esteem used to be "so low" that she would avoid friend Kaye Adams.

Speaking on Friday's Loose Women, the presenter, 57, recalled that she was "feeling so fragile" at the time that she would avoid her co-star's, 58, calls.

Nadia said that she and Kaye have been friends for more than 20 years but there was a time where the latter used to "intimidate" her.

She said: "Kaye and I have been friends for over 20 years but there was a long period of time where I just was a mess.

"I'd had a lot of trauma gone on, I was drinking heavily, Kaye almost intimidated me. Without knowing, without meaning, because she was so sorted and so smart."

Explaining the difficult time in her life, Nadia continued: "It was a time when I was feeling so fragile and my self-esteem was so low that I avoided you all the time and I wouldn't pick up your calls and I wouldn't call you back."

Nadia admitted that she used to prefer to be around more "chaotic" people instead of Kaye who she saw as "put together'".

However, despite avoiding her co-star, the star admitted that Kaye had a sweet message for her when she got in touch years later.

Nadia said: "The amazing thing is, is year's later when I phoned Kaye, and it was so hard for me to do, and there was never a day went past when I didn't think about her…

"First thing Kaye said was: 'You're one of my most favourite people in the world' — straight off."

To which Katie Piper sweetly commented: "You've always been a good friend!"

While Kaye hilariously joked: "I've always been a dreadful liar as well."

It comes after Kaye stomped off set after a playful on-air clash with co-star Nadia last month.

The panellists were discussing, "is it wrong to put yourself first?" following Hollywood actor Will Smith admitting he does.

The drama unfolded during a conversation about dogs, and Kaye recalled when Nadia told her she didn’t think her dog had nice eyes.

As the discussion got going, Nadia said to Kaye: “I don’t think you put yourself first, I think you put your little puppy dog first.”

Kaye responded with: “This is really developing into a very weird story about me and my dog.”

Nadia responded with: “That’s because it’s weird.”

To which the star then shared a story between her and Kaye. She said: “Once Kaye said to me, in a really serious way, ‘do you mind if I tell you about a time when you really annoyed me’ and apparently two years previously…”

Kaye jumped in: “I hope you’re not going to say the same thing again because it’s going to annoy me again.”

Nadia went on: “Two years previously I told her I didn’t think her dog had particularly nice eyes.

Kaye tried to stop Nadia re-sharing the tale but then said: “That really, really annoyed me.”

The pair then got into an awkward exchange where Nadia said Kaye was trying to make out her dog was better than (Nadia’s) dog.

Clearly uncomfortable with the conversation, Kaye then said: “She has dragged up some really difficult feelings.”

As the panel descend into laughter Katie Piper said: “Put yourself first and walk off set.”

Kaye then dramatically stood up from her chair with an element of tongue-in-cheek and said: “Thank you that’s exactly what I’m going to do."
