Kyle (played by Chris Milligan) has been at the centre of some huge storylines during his time on Neighbours and for once, in recent episodes, he has simply been a pillar of support to those whose lives are dramatic as ever. He has been enjoying his relationship with Roxy Willis (Zima Anderson) and has become somewhat of a big brother figure to Hendrix Greyson (Benny Turland), especially when the youngster thought he had cancer. However, in the upcoming weeks on the Channel 5 soap, the beloved character will take a test himself after recognising some of the symptoms and it seems the results will change his life forever.
The drama begins in scenes airing next week in the UK when Kyle takes a trip to Frankston and he tells his friends he is going on a fishing trip.
When he returns, however, it is clear he hasn’t told them the whole truth about why he needed to leave Erinsborough.
Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Maloney) begins to do some digging and knows something is up when he spots Roxy getting emotional.
Although he tries to put the pieces of the jigsaw together, the father of two is rocked when he discovers what has been going on.
Kyle informs his friend following Hendrix’s doubts about having testicular cancer, he has done a test and the results have come back positive.
In a heartbreaking confession, Kyle tells Toadie he wants to keep the diagnosis from his family until he knows more about the diagnosis.
If anyone knows how important it is to seek help about a cancer diagnosis it’s Toadie as his wife, Sonya Rebecchi (Eve Morey) discovered she had ovarian cancer when it was too late.
She had already reached stage four by the time she found out she had it and in heartbreaking scenes, she passed away in her husband’s arms.
Toadie is likely to be a huge source of support for his friend but Roxy begins to become worried not enough people know.
Although she knows he is struggling, she tries to coax him to tell his loved ones, including Sheila Canning (Colette Mann) and Levi Canning (Richie Morris).
Wishing Kyle all the best
It is not yet known if Kyle will listen to Roxy’s pleas or if he will continue to bury his head in the sand about his diagnosis.
However, if he doesn’t get the help and support he desperately needs from those around him, he could make himself extremely ill.
This could have a huge impact on the way his treatment goes as he will undergo chemotherapy to try and get rid of cancer.
If his family think he is hiding secrets from them, trying to recover from treatment is going to become increasingly hard.
What would make the storyline even more devastating is if the character were to die, with his loved ones only finding out the truth once he had gone.
In recent years, the Canning family have been hit with a huge amount of heartbreak as Gary Canning (Damien Richardson) was murdered by villain Finn Kelly (Rob Mills).
This led Sheila to struggle with her grief as she tried to adjust to life without her son but losing her grandson could hit her twice as hard.
Having joined the show in 2008, Kyle is one of the longest-serving characters still featuring on the daytime soap.
He has been in a few perilous situations over the years but he has never come close to death, rather being an injured party in dramatic storylines.
Will history repeat itself as Kyle’s story takes a similar and heartbreaking route Sonya’s took two years ago?
Taking to Twitter, fans have shared their reactions to Kyle’s cancer plot, with Mimi writing: “This type of news is always truly upsetting, even though I saw it coming I hoped it wouldn’t be true. Wishing Kyle and Roxy all the best.”
Jan commented on the social media platform: “Oh no, why is Kyle holding his back, are we in for a nasty twist here? #Neighbours.”
Grianne remarked: “No Kyle. So the Funeral that has recently been filmed could actually be his potentially? Really hope not #Neighbours.”
“So are they giving Kyle the C storyline instead of Hendrix? #Neighbours,” Laura shared.
Shooting Star posted: “So good to see Hendrix and Kyle bond so quickly. I wonder if Kyle will tell Hendrix that it’s him that has the lump #Neighbours.”
Last year, the actor who plays Kyle, Chris, spoke about returning to Los Angeles for work after living in the American city a few years ago.
The actor explained: “I mean me and [girlfriend] Jenna [Rosenow] moved to LA, we were in LA for two years. Then we moved to Canada for six months.
“Then I came back to Brisbane, back to labouring work for three months, and then I came back on the show.
“The whole LA thing, going over there and doing that, I feel like I’m going to be better once I go back.
“It’s not that I wasn’t ready… I don’t think I was ready for what would’ve happened if I did get a job. I was looking at LA the wrong way.
“I’ve seen so many people go to LA and they don’t make it for four years, 10 years, 12 years. It’s like, if you really want it you can just stick with it. I think I’m going to have that attitude when I go back, especially now because of this pandemic,” he said in a podcast with co-star Takaya Honda on his YouTube series TakTalks.
So could a death be on the horizon for the beloved character?
