Peter Wright shot to fame in 2015 when The Yorkshire Vet first launched on Channel 5. The hit series follows the day to day working lives of Peter and his colleagues at Skeldale Veterinary Practice. The TV star has come to terms with his fame, but took on a new challenge for the Christmas special this year. For the first time ever on The Yorkshire Vet, Peter has turned his hand at acting for the show.
The Yorkshire Vet is soon set to return with a Christmas special themed around the classic festive film It’s A Wonderful Life.
In the episode, fans will see Peter acting alongside former Doctor Who and All Creatures Great and Small star Peter Davison.
The veterinarian will perform in several scenes with the legendary actor for the festive instalment of the show.
Viewers will also get to watch Peter reflect on his lengthy career as a vet as he details what he loves about his job.
Additionally, the show will follow the adventures of The Yorkshire Vet team as they help animals across the challenging winter months.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Peter opened up about his experience acting on TV for the first time.
The veterinarian insisted he’s not an actor at all, explaining he’s usually himself when being filmed for The Yorkshire Vet.
Peter laughed: “I’ve said to a lot of clients over the years, when we talk about The Yorkshire Vet, I could never act to save my life – I’d be useless!
“When people see me they say ‘Oh you’re just like you are on the a television’ and that’s the answer I give them,” he said.
He confessed taking on an acting role for the Christmas special wasn’t something he was used to at all.
The vet commented: “I had to step out of my comfort zone on this occasion and work with Peter Davison.”
Chatting about his time working with the actor, Peter remarked: “When you’re working with him he makes it look so easy.”
However, the veterinary expert wasn’t so kind about his own acting performance, as he added: “I should stick to my day job.
“But, I thoroughly enjoyed making the programme with Peter and it was something a bit different,” the Channel 5 star said.
“I’ve always been a fan of Peter Davison, going back to All Creatures Great and Small.
“But, I think, working with Peter brings it home to you how talented these people [actors] are in the roles they take on.
“Obviously I’m a vet and I pretty much know my day job inside out, but to step into the acting world and see how the professionals do it was quite an experience,” Peter enthused.
The veterinarian admitted he’s particularly excited for fans to see The Yorkshire Vet Christmas special this year because it’s “so different”.
“It’s something I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making,” he added.
The Yorkshire Vet at Christmas: It’s a Wonderful Life airs Tuesday at 8pm on channel 5.
