Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) was heartbroken when Grace Shelby (Annabelle Wallis) was killed on the orders of Vicente Changretta (Kenneth Colley). The Peaky Blinder has never forgiven himself for her death and began to see visions of her in season five as his mental health deteriorated. However, a hidden clue during last season’s Swan Lake ballet performance could mean the lovers will reunite.

Swans are a recurring theme in Peaky Blinders that point to Tommy and Grace’s doomed love story.

The green tiles on the wall of the Garrison Tavern snug feature a pair of swans.

A motif of swans is also pictured in the fireplace of the back room.

Throughout season five, there are several clues that predict where Tommy’s fate may lie in season six.

At the Swan Lake ballet performance, guests are served swan-shaped food platters and there’s an abstracted swan on a wall plaque.

A deleted scene from season five, episode four revealed how the writers envisage Tommy and Grace’s reunion.

The scene in which Tommy stands on the bridge over the canal contemplating suicide originally featured a real swan.

The swan would have been present during Tommy’s vision of his wife’s half-buried corpse on The January coal barge.

Production designer Nicole Northridge explained: “We had a swan who swam under the bridge for real with an animal wrangler and then the barge came under with Grace in it. There’s a little clip that’s missing.”

The designer pointed out that the theme of swans throughout season five represent the way Grace is always on Tommy’s mind.

At several points in the season, Grace appears to Tommy in visions asking him to follow her.

The finale concluded with the Peaky Blinder holding a gun to his head while crying out to his deceased wife.

“The swan was the motif for Grace this year,” Nicole continued. “Grace is calling him home, saying, ‘Come and be with me.’

“It’s pretty chilling with the swan being such a beautiful, iconic animal, that it’s a metaphor for Grace and Tommy’s suicidal thoughts,” she told Den of Geek.

Will Peaky Blinders fans be forced to say goodbye to Tommy in season six as he reunites with Grace in death?

Elsewhere, spoiler pictures from the set of the BBC drama hint at trouble for the brothers linked to Sir Oswald Mosley’s (Sam Clafin) failed assassination.

The Peaky Blinders are present for an anti-Fascist demonstration filmed on the steps of St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

A large crowd of anti-Blackshirt protestors are seen gathering in the rain with plenty of police officers on hand to look out for trouble.

Tommy befriended Oswald in season five before turning against him and exposing his true motives for winning his trust.

Will Oswald use this demonstration as the perfect opportunity to get revenge on Tommy?
