Poldark rival Tom Bateman set to spice up Sunday nights in new Beecham House
Move over Poldark – here is the new hunk set to spice up our Sunday nights.
Tom Bateman has said he was happy to follow in Aidan Turner’s footsteps with sexy scything in Beecham House – because the story demanded it.The steamy shots are reminiscent of torso-baring Poldark in the Cornish countryside.
The ITV series is likened to Downton Abbey set in India.
John Beecham is newly arrived there in 1795 and is chopping bushes after intruders were spotted hiding in them.
Tom said he had seen the pictures of Turner, and didn’t mind giving viewers an eyeful.
“I knew there were certain boxes to be ticked. It made sense, he was doing it for a practical reason, spies can’t hide in bushes. Standing still in India you sweat, there is no way you’d be clothed.”
Tom, 30, added, laughing: “We were filming right below a hornets’ nest and they came after the crew.”
Director Gurinder Chadha said: “I fell in love with Tom as soon as I met him, as lots of women will do!”
The actor said of being a heart-throb. “If that happens it means people loved it, so how wonderful.”
- Beecham House begins on June 23 on ITV at 9pm.
