The Queen announced her husband the Prince Philip had passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning with details of his funeral slowly being revealed. As the world mourns the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh it is believed the Queen will “withdraw” as she seeks comfort from her family and her faith.

Speaking on BBC News, Nicholas Witchell shared his predictions on what the Queen will do next, suggesting she will have “prepared” for Prince Philip’s death.

Newsreader Huw Edwards remarked: “Let’s begin with the huge personal loss the Queen has suffered.”

“Huw, a major figure has left the nation stage today, two months and one day short of what would have been his 100th birthday,” Witchell replied.

“Now, it’s not a huge surprise given his age, given his evident frailty when we saw him leave the King Edward VII hospital rather less than a month go.

“But it is a moment of sadness and a great personal loss above all for the Queen.

“Hers is a more solitary path now as she will be sustained, I’m sure, by her Christian faith and other members of her family.

“There can be no question of her withdrawing now. One must suppose she would have prepared for this day.

“I was told she thought she had lost him back in 2011 when he had heart pains and was taken to hospital.”

Witchell continued: “So not a surprise but it will none the less be an emotional shock after so many decades to realise that he is no longer there.

“There will be the consolation of the time they spent together over the past year in the lockdown and now of course there will be so many memories.”

A statement released by Buckingham Palace read: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

“Further announcements will be made in due course.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

It is believed Prince Harry will return from America to be present at Prince Philip’s funeral.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid tribute to his grandfather on their Archewell website.

It read: “In loving memory of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021.

“Thank you for your service… you will be greatly missed.”

Funeral plans for Prince Philip are currently being discussed between the government and palace officials.
