Spoilers: Who dies in horrific Christmas mass shooting in Corrie?

In spite of it being the festive season, Christmas day is usually anything but cheerful down Weatherfield way in Coronation Street, and this year is set to be one of the darkest the cobbles-dwellers have seen in quite some time, as a horrific mass shooting ensues as Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) rivalry with Derek Milligan (Craig Els) reaches boiling point.

Viewers have already seen Derek continue to toy with Gary over who owns the factory, and the animosity between the pair has reached new heights in recent episodes. This very much continues in to the soap’s festive episodes, as a drunk Derek admits to Izzy (Cherylee Houston) that he never owned the factory, which is the perfect segue for Gary to announce that he owns the place.

Derek is desperate to go on holiday with his kids, but — knowing how important this is to his adversary — Gary keeps him locked up the furniture shop overnight to ensure he misses his flight.

The following morning, Gary releases Derek, who’s distraught that he’s now lost his kids forever — and he holds Gary personally responsible for it. However, Gary’s not bothered, as he’s convinced that he’s shown Derek who’s boss.

Meanwhile, Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) drops off an antique gun at the furniture shop, Gary realises that the item is still live and thus takes it upon himself to stow the gun away in the nearby filing cabinet.

Later, the cabinet in the furniture store lies open — and the gun is gone.

As Christmas day arrives, Gary’s horrified when he realises that the gun is missing — as is its ammunition — and comes to believe that Ali (James Burrows) is the person responsible. However, as they come to blows, Derek watches from afar.

A worse for wear Derek enters The Rovers — desperate to locate his enemy — and he pulls out the gun and fires his first shot. With the gun pointing at Gary, th builder hightails it out of there, and Derek follows, as they end up in Winter Wonderland, where Gary orders everyone to take cover.

With horror and devastation a dead cert, which Weatherfield resident will find themselves fighting for their lives as a result of Derek’s actions?

One to watch: Wednesday 25th December on ITV.
