Strictly Come Dancing 2021 latest – Ugo Monye to MISS show tonight due to emergency back surgery as Robert Webb QUITS

STRICTLY Come Dancing star Ugo Monye has revealed he will be taking a week out from the BBC dancing competition.

The retired rugby union player took to Twitter to reveal to fans that he was suffering from "back problems" that would mean stepping back from Saturday night's show.

The shock comes just a day after Robert Webb announced he is QUITTING Strictly just three weeks in due to poor health.

The comedian and his dancing partner Diane Buswell have released a statement this evening confirming their departure – explaining that it was due to ill health following major heart surgery.

    The show must go on

STRICTLY Come Dancing have confirmed that they WILL eliminate another celebrity this weekend – despite Robert Webb’s shock exit.

Robert underwent major heart surgery in 2019, and was struggling with the gruelling training and energetic routines.

Despite the unexpected departure, Strictly bosses have confirmed to The Sun that another celeb will follow Robert out of the door this weekend.

Saturday’s live show will also go ahead as normal, with the pre-recorded results show to air on Sunday night.

David Mitchell WON’T replace Robert Webb

ROBERT Webb’s Peep Show co-star David Mitchell said he won’t “replace” him on Strictly despite a fan campaign to get him on the show.

After Robert announced the news, David shared his support on Twitter, writing: ” This is sad! They did some really brilliant dancing, I thought.

“Sorry there won’t be more. And to those asking if I’ll be stepping in to replace him: I’m afraid not.

“I prefer to dance like nobody’s watching. And I can only do that if nobody’s watching.”

John Whaite SECOND-FAVOURITE to win Strictly

JOHN WHAITE IS SECOND-FAVOURITE with Ladbrokes to win this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

Despite recording the best score of the series so far, the bookies make the Bake Off star 15/8 in the betting for the Glitterball Trophy, with Rose Ayling-Ellis continuing to lead the way at 7/4.

Elsewhere, at the other end of the scale, Greg Wise is the overwhelming favourite in the betting for the boot this weekend at odds of 5/4.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The odds suggest it'll be a two-horse race between Rose and John for this year's Glitterball Trophy, although we wouldn't be surprised to see Rhys' odds slashed from 14/1 if he puts in another impressive performance this weekend."

    Awkward

TILLY Ramsay and Strictly pro Nikita Kuzmin shared an awkward hug last night amid rumours they’ve grown close on the BBC show.

Gordon Ramsay‘s daughter, 19, and the Ukrainian dancer, 23, wrapped their arms around each other outside the Strictly It Takes Two studios.

It comes as Nikita’s girlfriend broke her silence – amid growing speculation of his bond with partner Tilly.

Nicole Wirt took to social media last night to urge people to vote for the pair and keep them on the show.

She also described the duo – who we yesterday revealed have become “inseparable” – as “cuties”.

Robert Webb on the heart defect that nearly killed him

Robert Webb said had been feeling rough for some time when he went for check-up just before lockdown began in March last year – but his doctor told him he was close to death.

Speaking at Oxfordshire’s Henley Literary Festival, he said: “I just thought: ‘This is my lifestyle and this is what it feels like to be 47.’

“But it’s a birth defect — one of the valves in my heart had prolapsed instead of opening and shutting nicely. It had almost doubled in size, it was this really weird shape and it was doing all this just to keep the show on the road.

“My heart thought that I was running up a hill when I was asleep, and I had not noticed. I thought: ‘Well, I am tired, as I treat my body like a skip.’

Explained: Why Robert Webb left Strictly

The 49-year-old – best known for being one half of Mitchell and Webb – entertained fans with a quickstep dressed up as Kermit the Frog with his dance partner and Miss Piggy for the night, Diane Buswell.

But Webb was forced to quit Strictly Come Dancing on Wednesday, October 13 due to “ill health”.

In a statement, the comedian revealed that his health had taken a turn for the worse, as he continues to recover from a major operation in 2019.

He said: “I’m extremely sorry to have to announce that I’m withdrawing from Strictly Come Dancing due to ill health.

“Two years ago, I had open heart surgery and although I believed I was fit enough to take on Strictly and its demanding schedule, it became clear that I had bitten off way more than I could chew for this stage in my recovery.

“I had begun to feel symptoms that led me to seek an urgent consultation with my heart specialist, and it was her view that it would be better for the sake of my health to step back from the show.”

Greg Wise odds on for Stricty boot

Greg Wise is odds-on at 4-5 with bookmaker Coral to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

Ugo Monye is 3-1 to depart the show next, while Judi Love is 5-1.

In the outright market, Rose Ayling-Ellis is the 7-4 favourite, with John Whaite just behind her at 15-8,

“Greg looks in the most danger this weekend. We make him odds-on to depart the show. He is likely to be in a dance off with Ugo Monye,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“In the outright market, there is very little between Rose Ayling-Ellis and John Whaite. They have both set an incredible standard and it may be the closest competition we have ever had this year,” added Hill.

    Unimaginable horror

Greg Wise’s son was kidnapped, turned into a child soldier and left homeless before his celebrity adoption.

Tindyebwa Agaba’s has previously revealed the harrowing story of his early life before he became part of the family in 2003.

Tindy, who is the eldest child of Greg, 55, and wife Emma Thompson, suffered unimaginable horror before he was brought to the UK.

    Fans convinced of a rift

Fans are convinced there is a rift between Strictly’s Greg Wise and Karen Hauer.

Those watching It Takes Two last week were distracted by the seating arrangements – with both stars sat on opposite ends of the sofa.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “#Strictly @karen_hauer and Greg on #ItTakesTwo very negative body language. She doesn’t like him….”

Another asked: “Can Greg and Karen sit any further apart?? No other coupes sit miles apart. This is a very strange relationship.”

A third compared them to their competition, tweeting: “The difference in body language between Greg/Karen and Rhys/Nancy is STARK”.

Greg Wise FAVOURITE for Strictly boot this weekend

GREG WISE HEADS INTO STRICTLY COME DANCING this weekend as favourite with Ladbrokes to be sent packing.

The 100/1 rank outsider to win the show is just 5/4 with the bookies for the boot this weekend, making him clear favourite in the betting ahead of Judi Love (5/1) and Dan Walker (8/1).

Elsewhere, Rose Ayling-Ellis remains the most likely celeb to go all the way and win the series at odds of 7/4, with John Whaite close behind at 15/8.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Punters would be wise to back Greg for the boot this weekend, with the show’s outsider clear favourite in the elimination betting as things stand.”

Strictly’s Ugo Monye updates from hospital bed

STRICTLY star Ugo Monye has been rushed to hospital for emergency back surgery after being forced to pull out of Saturday’s show.

The ex rugby star, 38, who is partnered with Oti Mabuse, had a procedure today and updated fans on his health.

He said: “A quick update. Just had the procedure done and spoke to the doctor, he’s really happy with how everything went.

“Slightly groggy, so going to head home and rest up and recover over the next couple of days.

“I just want to wish all the contestants all the very best of luck I’m absolutely gutted that I can’t dance this week, that I won’t be there.

“But can’t wait to get back and flying next week, so good luck to everyone I’ll be cheerleading off the sofa. Take care and I’ll see you soon.”

    Rose Ayling-Ellis favourite to win

Rose Ayling-Ellis has become the favourite once again to win Strictly Come Dancing 2021, at odds of 6-4 with bookmaker Coral.

John Whaite is now second favourite, at 15-8. AJ Odudu comes next in the betting at 4-1, with all other contestants then 14-1 or bigger.

"Rose, John and AJ have all had spells as favourite now in the early stages of Strictly 2021 and the three look to be the main contenders. Rose has risen to the top of the betting once more and she is back as the clear favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy now," said Coral's Harry Aitkenhead.

Meanwhile, Coral have refunded all bets placed on Robert Webb after he had to withdraw from the show due to health concerns.

    Shirley Ballas defends high scoring

SHIRLEY Ballas has defended her high scoring on Strictly Come Dancing after being accused of overmarking her favourites.

The head judge has been very generous with certain celebrities so far in this series – but she insists it’s just because the “standard is higher”.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on today’s This Morning, Shirley said: “I believe I must score according to what I see,”

“If it deserves a 10, I am giving a 10, it might be a three next week or a two and people are like, ‘Oh the scores are all over the place.’

“But you have to mark what you see at that moment.”

Craig Revel Horwood ‘wants unvaccinated dancers banned’

STRICTLY judge Craig Revel Horwood wants to ban unvaccinated dancers from the UK tour, sources say.

Craig, the tour director since 2012, is said to be keen to replace them with other performers.

A source said: “Craig’s view is that there will always be a dancer to replace anyone who hasn’t been double-jabbed.

“He would like the tour policy to be, ‘No jab, no job.’

“But it remains to be seen if he can achieve that when it comes to bookings.

“Past tours have seen celebs with partners they were not with on the show so, in theory, dancers could be swapped out.”

    ‘Just call me Rylan’

NEWLY single Rylan Clark has asked the BBC to call him ‘Rylan’ – after dropping husband Dan Neal’s last name.

The It Takes Two host was credited by his first name only when he appeared on Strictly spin-off show, while co-host Janette Manrara was credited by her full name.

“He thought it was best to have a fresh start and the easiest way to do that was to go back to just one name,” Strictly sources tell The Sun.

“He didn’t want to make a big fuss – just to change it onscreen.”

Any reference to the popular presenter’s last names have also been deleted from his Twitter account.
