Strictly star Adam is to perform a ‘topless Paso Doble’ if he makes it through
Strictly Come Dancing 2021 star Adam Peaty is going to perform a ‘topless Paso Doble’ in the coming weeks if he stays in the competition, his partner Katya Jones teased, who predicted that it will be his ‘best dance’.
This week, Olympian Adam and professional dancer Katya have had to regroup after ending up in the bottom two, saved by the judges as Judi Love and Graziano Di Prima became the latest couple to be sent home.
Tonight will see the pair take on the fast-moving Jive, which they’ll perform to Little Bitty Pretty One by Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, as one of the nine remaining partnerships on the series.
While speaking to Metro.co.uk after their rehearsal on the Strictly dancefloor, Katya revealed that she and Adam’s Couple’s Choice routine will be coming up next Saturday if they make it through, which will incorporate ‘a lot of cool tricks and lifts’.
However, the dance they’re especially looking forward to is the Paso Doble, with Adam explaining that he ‘finds energy in power’.
‘If we get through next week we’ve got Couple’s Choice, which means we are allowed to do what we want basically, and yes we do obviously have a lot of cool tricks and lifts,’ Katya said.
‘I love it, I just don’t want this to stop! Because every week we’re learning something new and he’s getting better and better. Like I said, Couple’s Choice is coming up, and Paso Doble, which is going to be his best dance. I think everyone’s anticipation for this dance is just up there.’
‘No pressure!’ Adam quipped, as Katya continued to explain why the Paso Doble is such a good fit for the swimmer.
‘Topless, demanding, doing what you feel good at. Being dominant, being strong,’ she said.
Adam said: ‘I think it’s one of my favourite dances when I’ve ever seen dancing. I find energy in power and I find energy in like just the moves which are sharp.’
‘That’s one dance I’d love to do. We’ve got to stay in the competition!’ he added.
Having faced the dance off last week, Adam and Katya are hoping their Jive will save them from a similar fate this weekend.
When asked how he coped with the shock that he and his partner were at risk of elimination, Adam explained that he finds humour ‘eases a lot of things’, including ‘anxiety’ and ‘low level energy’.
‘You come to a realisation on the show, it may happen on the first week, it may happen on the seventh. You come to a realisation that, hold on a minute, I’ve never been able to dance, now I’m dancing in front of millions of people on TV, I’m just going to enjoy this,’ he said.
Turning to Katya, he continued: ‘I said to you didn’t I on rehearsals now, I’m not even on the show in my head now, I’m just dancing with Katya. Make sense? And that just eases you off.
‘There’s no pressure then, because you can’t control the external, you can’t control what the public think. You can’t control what the judges think, so just dance together and have a bit of fun.’
The athlete recently spoke out about how he feels regarding attention from the media and the public, particularly after his and Katya’s steamy Argentine Tango, saying: ‘I’m just trying my best to be a dancer here.’
‘I was so in the moment and I loved the dance and we performed the dance, we did our best version on that night, and I think it was incredible,’ he said.
Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.45pm on BBC One.
