Strictly’s Janette quizzes AJ Odudu and Kai on their ‘deeper connection’

Janette Manrara has grilled Strictly Come Dancing stars AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington over their "deeper connection".

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old TV presenter appeared on It Takes Two alongside her professional dance partner Kai, with whom she sparked romance speculation during last weekend's show.

The pair set tongues wagging after dancing a steamy American Smooth to Whitney Houston's Bodyguard track I Have Nothing, with AJ growing emotional after the routine.

At the end of their performance, viewers also noticed Kai tell AJ: "Aww I love you, I love you so much."

During their It Takes Two appearance, Janette was taking no prisoners in getting to the bottom of things.

Keen to get the details on their relationship, Janette played the clip of Kai's words back to them on the programme.

She also said before the clip: "Speaking of romance and the characters, you were both saying you wanted to bringing romance to the floor and I think you really did because Kai you said this at the end of the performance…."

Both AJ and Kai laughed nervously as the clip played.

Janette later asked them: "Do you find that you're getting a bit of a deeper connection in this partnership?"

In response, Kai fielded the question.

The freshman Strictly star said to AJ: "I think that was all down to just the tough, tough week that we had and the fact that we got to the end of the performance and it was flawless and you smashed it, and you did all the lifts brilliant, did all the technique perfect.

"We were both just relieved, you were just gripping onto my neck!"

AJ and Kai will compete in this weekend's show, though they won't be joined by last week's competitors Katie McGlynn, Robert Webb or Ugo Monye.

While Katie was eliminated in last weekend's dance off, Peep Show star Robert was forced to pull out of the competition on medical grounds earlier this week.

On Thursday, it was confirmed Ugo and his partner Oti Mabuse would sit out this weekend due to the rugby star sustaining a back injury.

Ugo and Oti are set to return to the show next weekend.

Strictly Come Dancing airs weekends on BBC One, while Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two.
