SWAT will soon be back for its fifth season on CBS. Picking up where season four left off, Hondo (played by Shemar Moore) will be on the backfoot this time around following his demotion. Express.co.uk has all the details on when and where to catch the new season.
What time does SWAT season 5 premiere?
SWAT has been off screens since May 2021 and CBS has wasted no time in bringing the next season to order.
Season five will premiere on Friday, October 1 at 8pm EST on CBS in the USA.
Subsequent episodes will air weekly on Friday nights, though CBS has not confirmed how long the new season will be.
Previous seasons have ranged from 18 to 21 episodes in length, meaning season five will likely be similar.
This would take the new season into January or February next year, depending on the episode count.
Outside of CBS, fans can catch the show on Hulu, but the release of season five on the platform hasn’t been confirmed.
In the UK, there is currently no release date for the latest season, but it will most likely air on Sky One, as previous seasons did.
As for streaming in the UK, NOW is the best option, with all four seasons currently available to watch on the Entertainment Package.
Neither Sky nor NOW have confirmed when season five will premiere, meaning there could be some wait for UK viewers to catch the latest season.
What is SWAT season 5 about?
During the final moments of season four, Hondo made the decision to open up to the press, something which threatened his position.
Hondo was unhappy about how this latest mission went down, with him at odds with his commanding offers over the lives of citizens.
This resulted in Hondo being demoted, something which shocked and angered fans of the series.
It looks like Hondo will be taking a step back from the team in season five as he reassesses his time with SWAT.
The fifth season will open up with Hondo relocated to a new town, but still looking out for the lives of innocent people.
CBS released a synopsis for the first episode of season five, titled Vagabundo: “In the aftermath of his decision to speak out in the press, Hondo retreats to a quiet town in Mexico to reassess his life and professional future, only to find himself reluctantly drawn into one local family’s fight for justice.”
This will be the first half of a two-parter, solely focussing on Hondo in a dramatic change of pace for the series.
Speaking to TV Line, Executive Producer Shawn Ryan explained: “As Hondo tries to decide what to do next with his career, he finds himself regrouping at a friend’s vacation home in rural Mexico.
“In a two-part season premiere inspired by some of the classic Clint Eastwood ‘Man With No Name’ Westerns.”
The ‘Man With No Name’ Westerns include A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, all directed by Sergio Leone.
How season five will progress after this point remains to be seen, though it likely won’t be long before Hondo re-joins with the rest of the team.
The aim of the game in season five will likely be Hondo regaining his position and winning back the trust of his commanding officers.
SWAT season five will air on Friday, October 1 at 8pm EST on CBS. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
