Netflix hit series The Crown has fans curious as to how the storylines of the Royal family will play out as the show moves forward. Though, actor Tobias Menzies has discussed the realtionship between Prince Philip and his daughter Princess Anne.
One of Netflix’s biggest hit series The Crown debuted its fourth season in November 2020.
Viewers were excited to see the show portray the marriage between Princess Diana (played by Emma Corrin) and Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), and fans were not disappointed.
The highly-anticipated fifth season had audiences curious as to how the series will portray the death of Princess Diana, as well as the events surrounding the tragedy.
In the meantime, star Tobias Menzies, who portrays Prince Philip after taking over from Matt Smith, has discussed the relationship between Princess Anne (Erin Doherty) and Prince Philip.
Tobias detailed their relationship and how The Crown portrays their relationship, saying: “Anne and Charles are very different.
“Anne is tougher, or at least that is the story we are telling.
“Anne does seem more like a chip off the Philip block and for whatever reason, Philip finds her easier to relate to, communicate with and therefore more able to express his support or love for her.
“Anne hits some marital problems in this season and you see Philip able to sympathise with her, much more than he is able to with Charles,” he added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the show continues to portray the relationship between Princess Anne and Prince Philip as it moves forward into the modern day.
As fans wait for the next season, Royal biographer and The Crown consultant Andrew Morton, has teased what is to come.
Morton and Princess Diana secretly collaborated on her biography in 1992, which was titled Diana: Her True Story.
Morton has divulged details for season five to Insider, telling them that the next season will include the secret recordings Diana sent to Morton, as well as “the drama behind the making of my book.”
The next season of The Crown will also show Diana’s famous 1995 BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.
There is no word of how the recent revelations about the Bashir interview will affect the Netflix show just yet.
Diana famously stated that “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” during the interview so, surely, The Crown will further address the affair between Charles and Camilla.
Elizabeth Debicki will be taking over the role of Diana from Emma Corrin for the fifth and sixth seasons.
The Crown was created by Peter Morgan, and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures for Netflix.
The series has been renewed for a fifth and final sixth season, which will cover the Queen’s reign in the 21st century.
The release of the fifth season is expected sometime in 2022, but Netflix has yet to confirm a specific date.
The critically-acclaimed show is also one of the most expensive television series in history.
All seasons of The Crown are available on Netflix.
