The Pact is a popular crime drama TV series on BBC One and the show is made up of six episodes. The series was filmed in Wales and each episode continues to unravel the mystery of how a brewery owner ended up dead. The cast of the show spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and other media about some of the best behind-the-scenes moments.
The third episode of The Pact is due to air tonight and the series continues to explore the circumstances behind brewery owner Jack’s (played by Aneurin Barnard) death.
Some of the employees are suspicious of a group of Jack’s colleagues, believing they had something to do with the tragic event.
Anna (Laura Fraser) and her friends were involved in a drunken night that went terribly wrong, and the truth of what happened is yet to emerge.
The series stars Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh) – a religious colleague who starts to question her faith following the death of her boss.
The cast spoke to Express.co.uk about how actress Hesmondhalgh would often injure herself on set.
When asked who the biggest prankster was, actress Fraser said: “There was a lot of unintentional pranks by Julie because she was extremely accident-prone.
“She kept literally running into iron bars and coming in with bruises on her face. I think we were all too traumatised for any pranks.”
The show’s creator, Pete McTighe, explained how the cast and crew had been preoccupied with the tight coronavirus restrictions whilst filming.
This in turn meant there was not enough time for people to prank each other, although he agreed Julie’s mishaps were entertaining.
He said: “I think what kept me amused was Julie’s constant string of accidents, she would show up on set every day with a new accident that had happened, it was bizarre.
“We were all kind of operating on this heightened anxiety level because of the conditions we were having to work under and so there wasn’t that kind of pranky atmosphere.
“But what it did do was it brought us all closer together really quickly, it was really important to me that despite the conditions we were filming under, that everyone on the show had a really good time making it and I think we did. I think we all loved it.”
Actress Hesmondhalgh said the filming experience was one she would never forget, in part due to the fact she fell in love with Wales.
The star said she spent a lot of time in Wales and it was very close to her heart, making the experience all the more enjoyable.
In the series, she plays a mother-like character whom the other women respect and turn to for emotional support.
Although she comes across as a selfless character, she has plenty of her own dark secrets.
Her religion is very important to her, and the death of her boss makes her question everything she believed in.
Still, she agrees to keep the pact in order to protect the rest of her friends.
The actress said of her character: “I love her because she’s such an interesting character.
“On the surface, she might seem like somebody that I would play in that she’s kind of friendly and warm. But there is so much more to everybody in this programme.”
The actress also commented on the beautiful filming locations for the series, expressing her love for the brewery location.
She said the set was surrounded by extraordinary Welsh countryside, providing breathtaking views.
Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the series so far, with one saying: “@juliehes Watched the whole series of The Pact, amazing, loved it.
“Brilliant @PeteMcTighe writing at its best, directing @EricStyles fantastic and the whole cast for bringing the characters to life. Amazing job Julie on Nancy x”
