Vernon Kay has given an update on his health after pulling out of his This Morning presenting debut after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 47 year old was due to join Rochelle Humes, 32, as she wraps up summer before Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield return next week.

But just one day before he was set to join Rochelle, Vernon announced he had tested positive for the illness, meaning he has to stay and home and isolate.

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Vernon has now tweeted to tell his fans he is upset to be missing out on hosting duties.

He wrote to his 1.1million Twitter followers: "Missing out on my This Morning debut today cause of COVID.

"I was up for a bit of fashion and cooking with Rochelle.. Hopefully we’ll go again soon… P.s Feeling ok….(so far!) Really appreciate your well wishes."

One of his fans commented: "Oh no Vernon. I am so sorry to hear that you have COVID. I hope your symptoms do not worsen and that you make a full recovery very soon."

A second wrote: "Poor you missing out on that delicious Lamb Rogan Josh… you must be gutted! Hope you get well soon."

Whole a third penned: "So gutted for you. Hopefully you'll have a chance to do This Morning again in the future. Get well soon x."

Vernon revealed he had tested positive on Sunday, telling The Sun: "I'm absolutely gutted that because of a positive Covid test I'm no longer able to present on This Morning next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright's cover, two iconic shows which I've been a fan of for decades."

Eamonn Holmes has instead been filling in, but will be replaced on Wednesday by Alison Hammond.

Rochelle said last week: "I'm so looking forward to hosting with the wonderful Alison Hammond again."

Eamonn and his wife Ruth Langsford, both 61, have been hosting the show for the past seven weeks, with viewers of the daytime show admitting they were "gutted" Eamonn and Ruth's time hosting was coming to an end.

One person tweeted: "Can't believe it's the last week of summer this morning @thismorning really enjoyed watching Eamonn and Ruth."

Another added that the pair's departure may mean a dip in ratings, tweeting: "Not just Eamonn and Ruth's last week of #thismorning, probably a lot of viewers too."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
